The rifle scope history in Forest Lake, Minnesota goes back to 1895. The first rifle scopes were designed and built by Enfield Rifle and Pistol Company of Forest Lake, MN. This company was started by Captain John C. Hargrave and his son, Lt. Colonel John C. Hargrave. The rifles that these gentlemen manufactured were used by the United States military during World War I. After the war, Captain Hargrave continued to produce rifle scopes for the American market until his death in 1954. In 1949, Lieutenant Colonel Hargrave took over as captain of the company and continued production of rifle scopes into the 21st century.

Forest Lake is a small town in the extreme southwest corner of Minnesota, on the border with Iowa. The population was 1,671 at the 2010 census. Forest Lake is home to two universities and many businesses, including Kwik Trip, Sears, and Walmart. The community is known for its annual forest fire festival which takes place in late July or early August. The first permanent settler in Forest Lake was James Pritchard in 1855. After MSP became part of Dinkytown through annexation by Minneapolis-SaintPaul in 1973 (the merger creating MetroWest), all but one of Kwik Trip's original stores closed within 10 years; only The Gilded Cage continued to operate until 1993 when it filed for bankruptcy due to increased competition from new chains like Home Depot and Lowe's. In 1999 Forrest Hodge sold most of his holdings to retailer Macy's for $1 million cash plus $25 million worth of stock options over five years; Macy then reopened all but one store under its own name before closing it again in 2006 after another financial struggle. During the late 1960s through the early 1970s, ForestLake experienced some significant changes which have modestly impacted its today's society: 1) The construction of Interstate 94 made it easier for people living in other parts ofMinnesotato travel to our tiny community; 2) Economic fluctuations caused by industries shutting down or relocate within Minnesota led to reductions in jobs throughoutthe arts industry; 3) Global warming activists began protesting against oil drilling aroundthe country; 4) In 1972, city councilman Olaus Sahlmann died after being hit by a car while walking across an intersection; 5) In 1984, census data revealed that ForestLake's population had shrunk by seventy percent since 1980 due to immigration from elsewhere withinMinnesota; 6) In 2000, statehood ledto increased development opportunities outsideofFortressLake limits

Forest Lake is located in central Minnesota, and was first settled in 1854. The community grew quickly after the railroad was built through the area, and by 1860 had a population of over 100 people. In 1868, Forest Lake became part of the town of Thief River Falls, and remained that way until 1971 when it changed its name to Maple Grove.
