Forest Lake continued to grow after World War II started, with more people moving into the town because of its proximity to regional jobsites such as Hormel Foods Corporation and Ford Motor Company plants nearby. In 1957, Forest Lake became home to its own hospital following approval from county commissioners who felt that another clinic would not meet village needs adequately. That same year saw also the introduction of streetlights throughout town after residents asked for them during night time when traveling throughtowns near other municipalities without lights showed drivers they were passing through someone else's municipality instead of their own! By 1975, all but two buildings had been erected within forest lake limits since its incorporation - making it one of the fastest growing small towns in Minnesota! Forest Lake is located in the geographic region of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and it is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The population of Forest Lake was 3,932 at the 2010 census. Forest Lake is an agricultural community that depends on hunting, fishing, and agriculture for its revenues. The community has two churches, one Baptist and one Methodist, as well as a library, a post office, and several businesses including a gas station and convenience store. The first settlers to Forest Lake were farmers who arrived from upper Michigan in 1856. They began farming land around what is now downtown ForestLake with assistance from United States Congressman James Kiefer. In 1893, forest lake became an incorporated city under the name of Maple Grove when it annexed part of Maple Prairie which had been organized as an unincorporated township by residents John Everson and Nicholas Sokoloff on December 1, 1893. That year saw also first election to city council with five members; all but one (John Papp) were elected at-large because there were no wards established within the city limits at that time. In 1903, forest lake became a municipality when it merged with neighboring Maple Grove to form what would become known as the Minneapolis-St Paul metropolitan area (MSA). At that time development within MSA slowed due to competition from larger cities such as Minneapolis and St Paul which enjoyed higher populations densities due to their growth rates during that period drive by economic opportunities during World War II etc.). However growth resumed once again following ratification of state legislation creating MSA in 1968 which allowed for greater density within certain areas due to need for more housing near important transportation hubs like Interstate 55/Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport etc.). As more people moved into neighborhoods throughout MSA they brought their families - many of whom had grown up living close to their farms - back home where they started new businesses or reopened old ones along with others forming clusters similar in purpose or culture such as Park Slope neighborhood adjacent to Yeshiva University south side).
