Forest Lake is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. Forest Lake is located on the shore of the artificial lake created by damming an arm of the Mississippi River. It has a ZIP code 65836. The first settler in Forest Lake was Jonas Hagerty in 1851. In 1871, John and Anna Kemple established a cabin in what is now the east side of town. In 1912, Forest Lake had a post office but no services until 1913 when Lillie Ritchie opened the first store there. In 1955, forest service manager Don Kapp developed new land adjacent to present day Forest Lake for park development which would include hiking and fishing opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The land became known as Hiawatha National Forest and remains today one of Minnesota's most popular national forests with over 2 million acres (8,000 km²) of forested area including rolling hills and streams that run through its boundaries. One recent trend in ForestLake has been development around Hiawatha Park where homes have replaced many of the older buildings that line Main Street between downtown and US-30/Mt Pleasant Road; this has made it difficult to see much evidence of early pioneer life within minutes walking or driving from any address other than Unit 1Homes at 0x19E 3x27R on map below! Forest Lake was founded in 1881 by the Santee Sioux and is located in Minnesota. Forest Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) and a village in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,826 at the 2010 census. It was established as part of a reservation for the Santee Sioux tribe. The first settler at Forest Lake were two Norwegian immigrants, Ole Olsen and his wife Sverre Hauglandt, who arrived on July 3, 1881. They built a log cabin on the original homestead site which they named "Rosenlund". TheOlsen family operated their farm until 1889 when they sold it to John Wiegandt. In 1893 Wiegandt married Anna Griggs and together they started raising chickens on their new property. With increased production came increased expenses so in 1903 Wiegandt decided to sell his land back to the Olson family and began operate his farm as an agricultural cooperative known as "Griggs Dairy". This dairy operation continued until 1916 when it was taken over by Jens Jensen from his father-in-law John Langevin. Jens Jensen became owner of boththe griggs dairy and forest lake post office which opened in 1917 In 1928 First National Bank purchased all ofJensen's interests in the post office including the forest lake store that he had built years earlier In 1951 First NationalBank merged with Minneapolis National Bank creating Minneapolis National Bank which later served as one of the parent banks for Alliant Banking Corporation which created Credit Suisse Group AG . After Credit Suisse Group AG went public Third Rock Ventures LLC bought rights to use Pine Tree Resort Golf Course adjacent to town center from Credit Suisse Group AG A golf course development called Erin Hills Golf Club Incorporated began construction in 1984 following plans submitted by Forest Lake Golf Management Incorporation . The golf club opened its doors during 1987 with membership consisting primarily of business people from nearby towns such as Eden Prairie and Maple Grove
Forest Lake was founded in 1881 by farmers on a tract of land that is now the City of Minneapolis. The community grew rapidly, and in 1906 it became a city. In 1938, Forest Lake annexed the neighboring town of Lyndale.
