Forest Lake is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. Forest Lake is located on the east side of the Mississippi River and it borders Rice Lake to the north, Maplewood to the south, and Farmington to the west. The community started as a small farmstead named Forest on September 18, 1903. A post office called Forest was established in 1907, and continued in operation until 1959. In 1916, two brothers named Olson bought land adjacent to present-day Forest Lake from a group of farmers for $1 per acre. The brothers developed their land into an agricultural community with farms that yielded crops such as hay and corn. In 1927, they built a sawmill which still operates today. The first store opened in 1928 and was operated by Mrs. Dora Juhl until she died in 1931; then it was run by her son John Fuhrman until he also died in 1971. In 1935, Mr. Harry Weise started selling groceries from his home at 5255 N 85th Street; this store would eventually become known as Weiser's Department Store (now Macy's). In 1948, forest lake had its first school when Woodbury School District #2 formed a cooperative program with nearby Rice Lake School District #3 to create an educational center for students from both districts who desired more than just elementary education during those years without any centralized authority or schools specifically designed for this purpose within Ramsey County or anywhere else within Minnesota! Today there are 11 elementary schools serving Village idiotia residents: 3 public schools (grades K-12), 2 private schools (PreK-8), 2 Waldorf Schools ( Kindergarten through 8th grade), 1 Bible Academy (9th-12th grades), 1 Preschool ( PreK-6th grade) & 1 Daycare Center open 7 days/week! Forest Lake is a small village in Hibbing, Minnesota. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is located on the edge of a large forest that includes more than 20,000 acres. Forest Lake was named for John Forrest and his brother-in-law, George Fox, who were two of the early settlers in Hibbing. The first permanent settler in Forest Lake was James Hickey in 1847. He built a log cabin on the north side of the river near where present day State Highway 6 intersects it. In 1851, Hickey's son, David Hickey, married Miss Emma Fenton and they began to clear land around their cabin for farming purposes. By 1865, all of Forest Lake had been laid out and development started with sawmills and other mills opening up along what is now State Highway 6. One of ForestLake's most important landmarks is its Presbyterian Church which was built in 1882 by Reverend Simeon Wirthman. The church has served as the village center since its construction. Other notable buildings include Bank of America building (1907), First National Bank (1930), Stroud Elementary School (1937) and Holy Angels Catholic Church (1965). In 2007, ForestLake became an official voting town within Jackson County by resolution passed by both houses of the Jackson County Legislature after years of effort from many individuals and organizations including several churches within the village itself as well as support from members of county government through planning meetings held annually throughout the year preceding Townhood Day on November 3rd when all final decisions were made about incorporation into Jackson County.
Forest Lake was first established in 1843. The community of Forest Lake was named after the forest that populated the area. The population of Forest Lake grew quickly, and by 1851, it had reached 1,000 residents. In 1865, a post office was established in Forest Lake, and by 1870, it had grown to two posts. In 1903, the town of Forest Lake merged with neighboring village of Hillsboro to form a larger municipality. By 1916, the population of ForestLake hadgrown to 5,500 residents. In 1951, the townshippingof ForestLake and Hillsboro merged into one municipality again under the name of Minneapolis-St Paul.
