Due to its location within easy commuting distance of Minneapolis-St Paul and other major cities, Farmington quickly became a popular destination for college students and professionals alike during the late 1800s and early 1900s; many firms founded their headquarters here including Pillsbury Doughboy Bake Shop (now Ambassador Bake Shop), Wacoal (later Wrigley's), General Mills (now Kellogg), Sears Roebuck & Co., Continental Baking Company (now Czech Baking Company) and others. In 1907 when Interstate Highway 10 crossed through central Ramsey County from north to south it created an impetus for growth across several local communities which responded with plans for industrial parks that eventually saw various companies establish themselves such as Hormel Foods Incorporated (), Jabil Corporporated (), Red Roof Inn (), Target Corporation (), Staplesensing Technology Marketing Corporation ()and others over time - all resulting in increased economic development around town while preserving much of its rural character! When World War II began American manufacturers closed their plants throughout America due to rationing effects but few did so in southern Minnesota like Hormel who opened up a plant right next door to their original one near Plymouth Road - still doing business today as Hormel Foods Incorporated (). Farmington, Minnesota is a town in King County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from "farm", meaning "place where crops are grown" and "-ington" coming from the nearby community of Thomson. Farmington was founded in 1857 by Alexander McNaught and others to provide goods for settlers moving into what is now Dakota Territory. The first post office in Farmington opened in May 1857. In 1870, it was renamed Thomson after John Thomson, an early settler who died during the gold rush there that year. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Minneapolis-St Paul Railroad and its access to canal water supplies. By 1900, it had a population of 10,000 people. In 1960, Farmington became part of Ramsey Township.
