By 1890, there were over 100 businesses operating in downtown Farmington with 1,500 residents living therein; this number increased to 4,000 by 1925 when Interstate 94 was constructed through town connecting Chicago with St Louis via Minneapolis/Saint Paul airport (now Target Field). During World War I (1914-18), many local men enlisted in military service; some even went off into combat while others worked on farms or manufactured munitions plants nearby while their families sheltered behind trenches or lines at home. When war ended four years later without any significant hostilities taking place within FarmINGTON borders neither did anyone leave voluntarily - all residents remained until 1940 when mandatory relocation began under wartime government decree which called for low-income citizens who refused relocation to leave their homes found elsewhere within two months or face imprisonment or worse – an event that would later be dubbed "The Great Migration". During these years many talented young people left rural Minnesota for cities such as Detroit where opportunities were more plentiful; however few returned home again once war ended several years later although some did find jobs outside Minnesota thanks to postwar prosperity overall (see demographic changes below).

Farmington, Minnesota is a town in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Farmington was platted on February 17, 1868, by Danish immigrants Erik Jensen and his wife Karen. It became a city on December 5, 1911. The original name of the city was Lilleborg. The first settler in Farmington was John Rasmussen who arrived in 1867. He built a cabin near what is now Railroad Avenue and Fourth Street. A post office called Rasmussen had been established in 1866 but changed its name to Farmington on February 17, 1868. In 1870 farm land worth $1 per acre was sold to Michael Hagedorn for $10 cash and he named the town after his father-in-law Lars Hansen from Copenhagen who had come to America that year as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Civil War. In 1886 Hagedorn donated land for a new school which opened in 1888 under the name of Agricultural college or Scandinavian academy; this institution later became known as US Military Academy (USMA). In 1916 Norwegian immigrant Aage Olsen founded “Aage Olsen’s bakery” which remains one of Farmington’s most popular businesses today with over 100 years of history behind it! Olsen also started an ice cream parlor called Cream City that still stands today adjacent to USMFA campus across from the old Administration Building – home oftoday’s Campus Recreation Department! On January 1st 1907 Minneapolis- Saint Paul TRANSIT Company added an interurban line between Minneapolis and St Paul making Farmsville one stop away from both cities! On July 7th 1915 Twins brothers Gus and Al Wiebe opened up their auto dealership located at Fourth Street and Railroad Ave.,later becoming known as Wiebe Chevrolet & parts storeNext door operated by their widow Edith until her death in 1978; she bequeathed her property along Third Street north of I-35W to FM 628 for future educational use within farmland owned by St Cloud State University before it moved there permanently! In 1951 when Farmers market began operating outside grocery stores people would bring their produce inside where they would be stored ensuite while they shopped - this continues to be done during Farmers Market season today! Farmington has seen some tough times throughout its history including fires that destroyed entire neighborhoods back in 1904 (the only fire ever reported in MN), a tornado Outbreak in 1938 that affected much more than just FarmINGTON proper; numerous floods including one which completely destroyed Main Street business district during 1971 flood; many earthquakes have struck throughout its history including two major ones – an 8.0 earthquake striking on October 15th 1906 followed by another magnitude 8 quake less than 2 weeks later injuring many residents although no injuries were reported both times) however all have ultimately concluded with relatively low damage costings compared to other large western MN towns through similar events taking place nearby including Mankato & Rochester
Farmington was founded in 1854 by John and Anna K. Farmington. The city was named for Anna's father, George Washington Farmington, who had been a U.S. Congressman from Minnesota in the 1840s and 1850s. In 1875, the city was renamed Minneapolis after Minneapolis, Minnesota, the first capital of the United States.
