The Farmington area was first settled in 1854. The population of the town increased rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, thanks to a boom in agriculture. The townspeople built a number of businesses and churches, and developed a strong local economy. In the 1920s, Farmington became an important center for agricultural production and processing. It remained an important center until the 1990s, when its manufacturing base began to decline.
Farmington is a small town in southern Minnesota. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first people to live in Farmington were the Potawatomi and Moccasin bands of Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in 1836, when James Armstrong founded a farm on what is now Main Street. In 1851, John Averill left his farm on 700 acres (280 hectares) northeast of Farmington for $3,000 to become one of the first farmers in Minnesota. He named his new land "Averill's Prairie" after himself and his brother Andrew Averill. In 1865, Dirk Coombs settled along what is now Maple Avenue near where he would later build his home colony called Wadena. By 1870, there were over 100 farms scattered throughout central and southern MN with approximately 420 residents living in Farmington Township by 1880. During World War II, many people from Farmington worked at various places within the munitions industry such as White Sands Ammunition Plant and Armoury #1 on Edison Boulevard in Minneapolis (now Target Corporation). Others worked at Emerson Radio Company on Third Street north of downtown while others continued farming until they retired or moved away during that time period including Harry Bemis who started growing corn near Center City Mall which became a landmarks today as part of Hennepin County's Farmers Market chain; Lewis Flour Mill Creek; local mill owner George Kettering donated equipment to open First National Bank & Trust Co., also located east of town; ice cream truck mascot 'Minnie' ran from Ice Cream Parlour across Cedar Avenue into neighboring Mille Lacs County before finally retiring hereabouts circa 1984; Mrs./Mrs.(First name unknown) taught 5th grade from 1951 until her retirement in 2006 at age 97 years old; currently active member/member emeritus club 'Old timers chat'. The following are some notable events which occurred during this time: 1920 - Crockett Park opened minutes after purchase by Mayor Jens Jensen with playgrounds for all children between 3rd Ave N & Lyndale Ave S by 1927 1935 - Christensen School District organized with merger of three districts including Farmington Valley School District (FVSD), Blue Earth School District (BEED), and Anoka-Ramsey School District No 2 (ARSD2). The FVSD was formed because it contained more rural territory than any other district leaving it without an elementary school superintendent so Superintendent Charles Capps assumed leadership duties 1945 - Wadena Colony built their own post office just outside town limits opposite Highway 10 convenience store

Farmington, Minnesota is a town in the U.S. state of Minnesota and the county seat of Morrison County. The population was 9,845 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Morrison County after Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Farmington is home to IMAX Cinema Park, a major movie theater chain. The first settler in what is now Farmington was David Logan in 1853. He named his land "Easton"after Easton Township, Pennsylvania where he had been born and raised. In 1857, John Logan purchased 640 acres (242 ha) of farmland from David Logan and began growing corn, wheat, soybeans and other crops on his new property. In 1862 John married Deborah Lyon of Ottawa Township, Illinois who also owned land in Farmington. They built a log cabin on their farmstead which they named "Holt Place." In 1865 Charles Holt moved to Farmington from Stroudsburg Township near Pittsburgh with his wife Eliza Atherton and their two children: Charles Holt Jr., age 11 months; Clara Atherton Holt age 6 years old when her father died; Maurice Atherton Holt age 2 years old when he was killed by an animal). Charles worked as a carpenter for many years before starting his own business as a builder of homes about 1870s-1880s. Charles' son Maurice became one of the most successful farmers in Morris County during the late 1800s and early 1900s with large tracts of farmland located along Beltline Road between Farmington Hills north to Plymouth Township east and West Bloomfield west to Mason City south. During World War II several thousand men from eastern Canada enlisted in Morris County military service at local high schools such as Farmington High School where classes were held until after midnight on Friday nights to allow students time for military training while still living at home with parents or guardians. Many veterans later returned home to farming families that they had helped build up over decades into thriving communities within their own towns or rural areas outside of urban areas such as Chicago or Detroit
Farmington was founded in 1862 by John Fenton. It became a city in 1872, and then a town in 1879. The city was renamed Farmington in 1907.
