Faribault is a city in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 7,251 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County. The first permanent settlers in what is now Faribault were two families from Illinois who came to this area around 1855. They named their new town after General James K. Faribault, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War and later a U.S. Senator from Minnesota. The town site was surveyed by Captain John Richardson on July 6, 1858, and he submitted a plat for sale to George Hennepin on October 1,1858. On March 3rd of that year, Hennepin sold the land to David Wells Fargo for $5 per acre (about $ today). This was typical of early settler behavior—they bought large tracts of land rather than develop it themselves. The first store opened in 1861 and located on First Street near present-day North Road; it became known as the "Faribault Mercantile Company." In 1865, when railroads arrived in this area, small businesses such as these began to flourish because they could transportation goods directly to customers rather than having them shipped through larger towns or cities like Minneapolis or St Paul.[1] By 1870 there were six stores and thirty-six vehicles parked along First Street alone![2] In 1875 local farmers decided to raise hay so they built a barn on the northeast corner of present day Second Street and East Seventh Avenue; this barn remains standing today (although it has been greatly deteriorated over time).[3] The hay industry continued until about 1920 when automobiles got into vogue and ceased production altogether; however, some evidence suggests that a small number of intact hay steeples still remain in Faribault today.[4] One aspect which continues to make Faribault unique is its lack of traffic lights; residents always use crosswalks instead![5] One busy intersection that still exists today is Third Street/East Seventh Avenue where many businesses once situated: Arby's Hamburgers (now Jamba Juice), Subway sandwich shop (now Carl's Jr.), Pizza Hut restaurant (now Hardees'), GameStop store (!), Michaels Stores Department Store (& adjacent bank), Sears & Roebuck department store (!). Many other popular businesses have moved away or closed since then but these three remain some of Rochester’s most recognizable landmarks!

Faribault, Minnesota is a town in southcentral Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The name is derived from French and Scandinavian settlers who named the area "Fairy Rest" after encountering a fairy during their trek through central Canada in 1849. The first European to visit Faribault was Pierre Le Moyne in 1796 and he named it for Jean-Baptiste Faribault, comte de l'Isle-aux- Fortifications (1748–1827), an officer in the French army who had fought against British forces at Yorktown and Saratoga. In 1851, Jens Hansen, a Norwegian immigrant and landowner near present day Hastings Avenue and University Avenue, donated land to establish a township. The first settler was John Sitton, who arrived on July 24, 1855. In 1870, whenMinnesota became a state; Faribault Township consisted of only 3 acres (1 km2). However by 1880 it had grown to 30 acres (12 hectares) with over 100 residents living there on seven farms stretching along University Avenue between bluffs overlooking Lake Superior on one side and Rice Creek on the other side. By 1890 farming had become such an important economic activity that two grain elevators were built within 2 miles (3 km) of each other in that decade: one on US Highway 6 just east of town limits and another about ½ mile (800 m) north on County Road KK4 which ran parallel to University Avenue between Rice Creek bluff and White Sands Hills ridge near Blair Mountain Resort

In response to these issues, the city of Saint Paul invested in new roads and public transportation which has allowed Faribault to grow stronger since then.
