Ladd developed this area into an agricultural empire that included corn, beans, wheat and soybeans; he also founded two towns - North Faribault and West Faribault - and ran one of the largest lumberyards in America. In 1907, he sold his entire business to Jens Jacobsen for $100 million dollars. The following year saw major changes when Ladd's son-in-law Orville Wright founded Wright Brothers aviation company on his property near Dayton, Ohio; this led to increased traffic through the town and helped make it one of the most important rural communities in Minnesota during that time In 1933Faribault lost its status as county seat when Hennepin County was created from part of Dakota Territory; however, it remained its main cultural center due to its history as an important railroad junction and manufacturing center during World War II. One notable resident during this era was Willy Brandt who served as Mayor from 1945-1948 before becoming Chancellor of Germany after that country's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II In recent years there has been much redevelopment activity with businesses such as Target Corporation moving into the downtown area while smaller restaurants have moved out or closed altogether because of competition from larger cities such as Minneapolis or St Paul .

The name "Faribault" is an anglicized form of "Fergus". The first European to explore and settle what is now Faribault County was John James Audubon in 1836. He named the stream that flows through the town after General Andrew Jackson's older brother, Major General John Jacob Audubon. In 1881, a post office called Faribault was established at a location that would later become downtown Faribault. The construction of the Canada Pacific Railroad brought settlers and businesses to the area, and by 1910, there were over 100 businesses in downtown Faribault. In 1927, residents of Mahnomen County voted to secede fromMinnesota and join the United States as a new state calledOklahoma. This event created great upheaval withinMinnesota because most people felt their county had been taken away without their consent or knowledge- something which has continued to this day despite numerous efforts by both sides to mend fences. However, after much discussion and negotiation between all parties involved (including representatives from Oklahoma), on May 1st 1928 Mahnomen County reaffirmed its relationship with Minnesota by voting 34-0 to adopt Resolution No 253 asking for statehood for rural communities such as theirs within our borders As Oklahomans we knew that we could not simply let ourselves be annexed again like our southern neighbor- so we fought tooth and nail until finally on November 3rd 1928 when statehood was granted us In 1939 while World War II raged across North America countries likeGermanyand Japan began moving troops intoMinnesotato fightinthat warthe local farmers started building homes near where they would work duringthewar These home builders became known as "The GIs" or "Gentlemen From God". Once completion of World War II ended things slowly changed back around in 1945 with public opinion turning more towards agriculture once again becoming dominant over industry Today many people still identify themselves as rural Minnesotans even though they live close to urban areas . Despite some challenges which have come along with it such as joblessness rates etc., overall life in rural communities continues relatively unchanged
