This growth led to increased traffic around town which necessitated additional development; however, many residents still preferred to live close to their jobs or farmlands rather than commute into larger cities for work opportunities. In 1951, Fairmont voters passed a referendum approving annexation by neighboring Stittsville Township; this caused concern among some Fairmountians that they would lose their own identity if they joined forces with another municipality so close by. However, following negotiations between both entities over several years, it was determined thatFairmont would maintain its own distinct character whilestill sharing many common amenities with its neighboringsince both towns had elected officials who were committed to ensuring fair treatment for everyone within their borders no matter how large or small their village might be). Today, Fairmount remains an important community with its own unique culture and history - something that can be seen firsthand when you visit its downtown core where there are still active businesses such as banks and restaurants along with plenty of historic homes dating back centuries!
