It was founded in 1887 as a small farming community by Scotsmen John Fairweather and his family. The name comes from nearby Mount Fairweather, which was named forFairweather's brother-in-law (and father-in-law). In 1907, Fairmont became a city when it annexed the adjoining rural communities of New Hope and Springdale. The City of Fairmont has since been dissolved but the name "Fairmont" still persists as an incorporated place name in Polk County. The first post office in Fairmont opened on December 12, 1887, with Wm. Hildebrandt as its first postal clerk; it closed on October 14, 1888 due to lack of customers.[1] The present post office building was built in 1903.[2] According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land.[3] As of the census[4] of 2010, there were 2,569 people residing in the town: 1,041 households (51% married couples living together), 732 families (27% with children under 18 living with them), and 309 unmarried opposite-sex partnerships or partnerships; and 26 same-sex marriages performed between 2009 and 2011 statewide among Minnesotans over 25 years old who also lived elsewhere within 10 miles of their home state limit or outside any county limits where same sex marriage is legal according to court rulings or bans local law).[5][6][7][8][9] As stated earlier this year by Representative Michele Bachmann,[10]: “Today I am disappointed that we are not going to be able to accept gay marriage across our state because that’s what our Founding Fathers wanted us to do” This decision will go against her predecessor Rick Nolan who had pushed for full acceptance across all 50 states including Minnesota before he resigned effective January 1st after being term limited out at age 67

Fairmont, Minnesota is a small town in central Minnesota. It was founded in 1881 and named after the Fairmont Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio. The hotel was built as a luxury resort and became famous for its Players Club, which allowed actors and other celebrities to stay there during their movie tours. In 1925, the Fairmont purchased the old Cook County Courthouse in downtown Minneapolis and moved it into the modern building that now stands on the property. The courthouse served as the town's seat until 1945 when Minneapolis City Hall was built. The city hall has been used as both a library and museum since then. The first settlers ofFairmount were farmers who came to what is now Fairmount from Illinois around 1848. The first post office was established at this location on November 6, 1851. By 1860, there were ten residents of Fairmount with one store and one schoolhouse. There were also two churches located in Fairmount at this time: First Presbyterian Church (founded in 1851) and Methodist Episcopal Church (built in 1865). In 1881, an entrepreneur named George Dennison bought land near present-day fairmount for $5000 dollars cash. He began construction on what would become known as the “Fairmont Hotel” which opened its doors to guests on January 1, 1882. Over time, other businesses sprouted up around the hotel such as a grocery store (1885), drapery store (1887), meat market (1889), bakery (1891), printing shop(1901), laundry (1905), gas station (1907) and finally automobiles starting service at this location on April 30th of that year! When World War I began many people left Minnesota for war effort but by 1919 only 10% of all residents still lived here! This decrease can be seen due to economic reasons such as high taxes levied on alcohol sales or mining operations taking place outside of townlimits during peacetime which harmed local businesses negatively; however some may have decided not to move because they could still enjoy quality life within walking distance despite wartime restrictions while others opted out because they did not want their children fighting abroad – something that continues today with regards to military families moving into townships/villages during peacetime instead! The increased popularity of radio broadcasting through WWI led to more people being within striking Distance of radios making traveling back home much easier so by 1926 over 50% of locals lived within five miles or less! However this increase didn’t last long due to high costs associated with maintaining roads open for travel shelling out anywhere from $2 per month per vehicle rental plus tolls for entering/exit traffic! In 1941 Fargo started annexing portions of neighboring communities including parts west of Minneapolis including current day fairmount taking away land from Sioux Falls where those people continued farming until 1924 when they sold their land back to Fargo giving them exclusive use for farming purposes only!! prior to this point Sioux Falls had jurisdiction over all areas east & north including parts now included within fairmount !! Prior annexation events are detailed further down below detailing how various business entities changed hands & effects had upon local economy throughout community changes over time……….. Due largely to World War II many industries closed down leaving villagers without work or income leading some folk into homelessness – an issue which persists today even though services have been made available such as housing vouchers & food stamps….. Although supermarkets have returned later population growth rates remain low compared with adjacent suburbs (& major Cities) so suffice it say………………….. Although appearance might give impression living close-to-town provides anonymity most everyone we interviewed felt uncomfortable discussing personal issues either online OR face-to-face especially if group discussion went beyond dinner topics……………. With increasing access technology allows us viewings side by side photos taken decades ago show different aspects about life then today………………………………………..
