Lott and Company of Decorah, Iowa. The firearm was acquired by Wm H. Smith and Wm C.D. Hanson from Aiken County Sheriff Prentice Post at a gun show on January 8, 1888. Fairmont is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ramsey County. The city was founded in 1871 by farmers who had arrived from Illinois and Wisconsin. The first permanent settlers were C. H. Beattie and his wife Inez Beattie, who moved from Chicago to what is now Fairmont in 1872. They named their farm "Fairmount" after their home state of Vermont. The Beatties were replaced by James Ladd and his family in 1878 when they acquired the farm that now forms part of Fairmont's eastern boundary. In 1881, a group of men led by John Sibley bought land on which they built a log cabin called "Mountain View". This became the nucleus for what eventually became Fairmont. By 1886, there were some 100 people living in Fairmont-land (present-day Mountain View Township). In 1889, three brothers - George W., Andrew J., and Frank R.-leased 160 acres (64 hectares) of land northeast of town on the banks of the river for $100 per acre payable over 10 years with interest at 6%. This marked an important shift for rural Minnesota as it opened up new markets for agricultural products such as corn and woolen cloths supplied by railroads eastward from Minneapolis/Saint Paul into southern Ramsey County and thence into Manitoba via Winnipeg to Duluth; this development helped spur rapid growth throughout southeastern Minnesota during the 1890s thanks to increasing transportation costs associated with connecting these isolated communities through roadways not only across state lines but also along rivers which made them accessible year-round).

Fairmont is a small town in Barron County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. Fairmont is one of the oldest towns in Barron County and was founded in 1875. It is named for Colonel John Fairmont, an early settler. The first post office in Fairmont was established on April 15, 1875, but it did not open until May 2, 1876. The first store in Fairmount opened on July 14, 1876. The first school in Fairmount was built on October 1, 1877. In 1889, the town of Morrison were merged into Fairmount and it became a part of the Minneapolis–St Paul metropolitan area. In 1912 the city of Minneapolis annexed parts of Barron County to form its new municipal government; this merger resulted in the creation of a third municipality called Falcon Heights within Fairmount township; however Falcon Heights never achieved city status and has since reverted to rural status. In 1945 when local paper company Superior Printing Company went out of business due to World War II military production shortages, all printing presses throughout America were shut down; as a result most publications within fairount ceased publication between 1945-1946 inclusive which had significant effects on local economy reducing demand for goods made by Superior Printing Company's employees who lost their jobs during that time period
The first Fairmont Hotel was built in 1909 by the Fairmont Mining and Navigation Company. It became a luxury hotel after it opened on Grand Avenue in Minneapolis. The company bought the property from the city in 1925 and developed it into what is now Fairmont Place. In 1951, Fairmont purchase the nearby Nicollet Park Hotel for $1 million. The hotel was renamed the Fairmont Nicollet Park and continued to serve as an elegant luxury lodging until its closure in 1984.
