Fairmont, Minnesota is a small town located in the central part of the state of Minnesota. The population was 5,362 as of the 2010 census. The town center is located on a roundabout at State Highway 36 and Shepard Avenue. The first settler in Fairmont was David Hixon who arrived in 1851. Hixon's farmstead was near present-day Union City. Other early settlers included John Moody (1858), James McMurtry (1859), Amos Weiser (1859), Jacob Wetzel (1860), Samuel Prentice (1861), Levi Coffin (1862) and Ebenezer Cooke (1863). In 1871, Elijah White bought land from Nicholas Wasson for $1,500 cash. White built a log cabin which he named "Hennepin". By 1875, white settlement had spread to five blocks northeast of present-day Fairmont on what is now called Maple Street. In 1881, two other men - Aarons Olson and Gustavus Jorgensen - founded Wadena Lodge No. 6 Masonic Temple on what became today's First Baptist Church property east of Main Street north of Highway 362 (). In 1906, when it merged with neighboring Morrisonville into one municipality, Fairmont had a population of 706 people (). The first post office opened in 1909 and closed in 1960 (). The current post office opened on December 1, 2009 (), replacing an earlier building that served as both Post Office #1 () and Building C (). According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau report,[3] there were 5,362 people residing in Fairmount Township statewide; however this number may be lower due to non-reporting or non-response among certain populations such as Native Americans living within tribal boundaries .[4][5][6] As reported by the 2006Minnesota Population Center report,[7] there are 3 accredited colleges/universities presence here: Saint Mary’s University School of Business Administration; Stroudsburg Area Community College District; Morris State Technical College District 2 ; however these schools have no students enrolled or teaching here currently because they have moved away since then according to recent filings with state government records .[8][9][10] There also appears not be any professional sports teams affiliation here either like there would be for most places in Minnesota so fairmtn may be suffering slightly from its lack thereof especially if you happen to watch basketball etc...or ice skating![11][12]

After the war ended, manyFairmont residents decided they wanted to move back into their old homes and start over again. Unfortunately, this idea never caught on and most of Fairmont’s residents stayed where they were located when post-war technology made life much easier. Today, Fairmont is an unincorporated community located within Hennepin County, Minnesota that has experienced some recent growth since it first came into being in the early 21st century thanks to new development initiatives by local businesses and government entities alike!
In 1869, the first post office in Fairmont was opened. In 1903, the city elected its first mayor. From 1916 to 1917, Fairmont was home to World War I Veterans' Memorial Park.
