In 1903 an electrician named Gustavus Wirth invented a machine that could make nine types of firearms at once using three screws instead of hand tools; this revolutionized firearm manufacturing. Wirth's company became known as Dornier Firearms Corporation (later renamed Brownells Inc.) In 1907 an ammunition plant was founded by Samuel Colt with help from Wirth; it continued production until 1968. The city also began purchasing land around town for development purposes (particularly on First Street), which resulted in increased population density and more commercial activity around town center. In 1915 an ice cream parlor called "Minnie's Ice Cream" opened up on First Street near Washington Boulevard; it soon became one of the most popular tourist attractions in town. In 1922 two department stores opened: Fred Meyer on East Fourth Street and Sears Roebuck & Co., located just east of Main Street on Third Avenue.; these shops helped spur growth around town center while also providing jobs for local residents. Edina, Minnesota is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 7,309 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area and is the sixth-largest city in Minnesota. The history of Edina goes back to 1854 when it was named "Norcross." The name changed hand again in 1870 to "Edina" after the then-governor of Minnesota, James K. Edin. In 1896, the townsite of North Edina were annexed by town of Sioux Falls and became part of that municipality's borders; however North Edina has continued to be a separate community within its own boundaries since then. In 1912, Fargo businessman George Wold bought land east of downtown from John Lumsden for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2019). He began developing what would become known as Wold Park into an upscale suburb with large homes and a golf course. Wold died in 1927 and his estate was divided among his four children: Harry Wold (whose father had also purchased land east of downtown), Betty Lumsden (Harry's mother), Everett Lumsden (Everett's father) and Margaret Lumsden (Margaret's mother). Margaret took over her father's share and founded her own business empire which lasted until her death in 1978: The Margaret Harland Company which made frozen food products including ice cream, yogurt and cereal products under three brands names: Nestle Purée US Inc., Dole Whip US Inc., Jell-O America Inc.). She also founded two colleges: Mount Mercy University which now operates as Stroudsburg University; and Saint Cloud State College which operated as Winona State College before becoming Dakota State University today. After several years of debate between residents about whether or not to annex North Edina into their town Limits due to shared services such as schools, churches & post office being located on both sides Of town line - ultimately voters decided against annexation because they felt that it would only result in more expensive streetscaping for their small municipalities - a new Comprehensive Plan was created proposing annexation instead onto 220 acres north from Interstate 94 just off I-694 where all services currently housed within the current limits are proposed to be relocated including but not limited to an expressway exit ramps for Hwy 169/94 access & future street improvements such as widened sidewalks & bike lanes
