Eden Prairie, Minnesota is home to the "Gunsmoke" rifle range. The range was opened in 1907 and has been used for target shooting, rifle competition, and dog sledding ever since. In 1957, the Eden Prairie Rifle Club elected to make use of a new rifle range at the nearby Community College campus. This new range became known as the "Shooter's Ridge". In 1969, when Eden Prairie hosted the world's first outdoor Shooting Festival, it was decided that shooters from all over would attend. To ensure that everyone had an equal opportunity to compete, a shoot-off event was held between various shotgun and rifles groups. These days (2018), Shooters Ridge features Trap/ Skeet/ Sporting Clays events as well as Handgun matches on different days of the week. The Gunsmoke Rifle Range is still open today and offers instruction for all ages from NRA members and non-members alike. In addition to its own pistol range which can accommodate up to 22 rounds per gun, Gunsmoke also provides training for law enforcement agencies in how to safely handle firearms on public property.

Eden Prairie is a city in and the county seat of Eden Prairie County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. The name "Eden" comes from a location near the edge of an agricultural tract on the eastern border of present-day Eden Prairie and Minneapolis townships in 1858. The first European to set foot in what is now Eden Prairie was Pierre Dorion, who landed on December 6, 1784, while exploring what would become Dakota Territory. He named his new land after Mount Lebanon in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania where he had been born three years earlier. The townsite was platted on February 22, 1858 by commissioners John Auld and James Aspinwall under the pseudonym "Citizens". In 1859, there were only six inhabitants living in Eden Prairie; all but two were farmers or their families. By 1860, there were over 100 residents and seven businesses in town proper; by 1870 it had grown to 1,600 people and twenty-six businesses. In 1861 Mineral Springs hotel opened as the first municipal building north of Stroudsburg; it closed operations within five years due to lack of customers or financial trouble caused by changes in local commerce regulations (see post-Civil War era hotels). Dredging began on Saint Anthony's Well around this time which led to increased traffic onto Red Lake from parts of Minnesota beyond its borders – including Eden Prairie – making it necessary for a new bridge across Red Lake connecting both villages/towns (the first bridge across Red Lake was completed October 25th 1865). The well also allowed shipping access from Superior Island into Lake Superior without having to pass through Duluth or Sault Ste Marie. After becoming part of Minnesota on January 29th 1867,[5] Eden Prairie became one of nine municipalities within Hennepin County when that county was created from portions of Ramsey County.[6] On November 14th 1886,[7] Ford & Wigham bought out Citizens lands west along Beltrami Street for $10 per acre[8][9]: this made possible extensive development east along Beltrami Street between First Avenue and University Avenue with associated farmland west thereof until developer Jens Jensen acquired much remaining interest in 1925 for $2 million (equivalent to $107 million today).[10] With its impending annexation by Minneapolis following World War II,[11] Evansville took control over organized farming activities within Hennepin County[12][13]), although many small farms continued to operate until at least 1985 when they were annexed into neighboring Minneapolis.[14][15]: see also: History - Topeka City Council Annexation
