By 1912 there were over 300 residents living in downtown; this number grew rapidly during World War I with over 1000 citizens enlisted into military service! After World War I ended there continued rapid growth throughout much of the 1920s as First National City Bank became one of Winona's largest banks with branches throughout centralMinnesota! In 1940 Eddy Ladd opened his store at Third Street & Lyndale Avenue which quickly became known as "The Shop". Over time various businesses have moved out or closed within reason including Butterfly Bakery & Cafe (opened 1954), Dutch Bros.(1957), Joes restaurant(1959), ABC grocery store(1969), Macy's department store(1975) along with many others! During recent decades new businesses such as Pohl's Frozen Custard & Yogurt (opened 2006), Applebees (opened 2007) as well as having several large retail tenants such as Sears Holdings Corporation (2006-2007 opening across Main Street from old Macy's building), Target MallTarget Outlet mall (2009-2011opening adjacent to Kmart Store #2)[3] have opened up all over town bringing more jobs and prosperity to Eden Prairie than ever before!
