East Bethel, Minnesota is a small town located in the state of Minnesota. The population was 539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. East Bethel is home to the St. John's Lutheran Church and School, as well as two schools that are not related to Lutheranism but serve the community: Bethel High School andBethel Elementary School. The first settler in what is now East Bethel was Peter Schmiedt, who arrived in 1854. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Schmiedtville after his family's farm near Baden, Germany where he had been born some years earlier. In 1859, Abraham Laughlin moved from Granite Falls, Minnesota to purchase property east of downtown Minneapolis and founded the town of East Bethel on this land which he called Laughlinville after himself and his partner Jacob Laughlin (1814-1889). Laughlinville grew rapidly due to its proximity to transportation hubs such as Saint Paul and Minneapolisand its natural resources including coal, oil shale and lumber. By 1871, East Bethel had a school, Methodist church, hotel/laboratory complex and 500 residents. The town became an incorporated municipality in 1903 when it merged with neighboring towns of Lyndale (northwest) and Park Heights (southwest). During World War II, many civilians from across the Twin Cities relocated to eastern Duluth for work at munitions plants or other military posts within easy driving distance of their homes or businesses. These people were known as " gradual immigrants" because they gradually acquired American citizenship over time rather than being sudden arrivals like many others during wartime timescales. Many properties within today's boundaries of East Bethel were developed through this process: including Main Street between Superior Avenue and University Boulevard; Vaughn Road between Maplewood Drive and US Highway 169; Patton Road between Maplewood Drive and US Highway 169A; Caldwell Road between US Highway 169A & 190th Avenue; Aspect Rd between 190th Avenue & 187th Street; Henderson Road between 187th Street & 191st Avenue; Highland Rd between 191st Avenue & 194th Place etc.. The postwar boom ended abruptly after Vietnam Veterans Returned Home in 1975 with high numbers of joblessness among college graduates seeking greener pastures elsewhere in America- something that eastern Duluth could ill afford given its limited economic development potential compared to those areas west of Interstate 94 . Eastern Duluth slowly regained some lost ground until 2000 when new Census data showed that less than 1% of active citizens lived within city limits while more than 92% resided outside them – making Duluth one bedroom city by comparison! This reversal has affected everything from zoning laws governing land use throughout east Duluth all the way down to how public funding allocations are made for municipal services like policing or libraries which have all seen major reductions since then! East Bethel, Minnesota is a town in Polk County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saint Paul metropolitan area. The original settlers in East Bethel were Methodist Episcopalians who arrived in 1855. They named their community after Easton, Pennsylvania, where they had been pastorized for several years previous. The first post office was established in 1857 and served as the center of local life until 1907 when it was moved to Plymouth. In 1911 the new name of East Bethel was chosen to honour Rev. Drury Cope of Rochester, New York whom many residents had met while he was on a preaching tour through Minnesota during that year. In 1916 the village of East Bethel merged with neighbouring Plymouth to form what is now known as Saint Paul Township (east of downtown). This merger allowed for a more centralized government and organization within the township which helped promote development such as heavy industry and education within its borders. Over time other towns have merged into Saint Paul Township including Eden Prairie (1939), Maplewood (1945), Bloomington Heights (1965), Eveleth (1973), Shakopee (1986) and Richfield Heights (2005). As a result of all these mergers there has been significant change to the demographics and functions withinSaintPetersburgtownship over time with most residents having resided within it since its establishment in 1916 or earlier.
