East Bethel, Minnesota is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1854 by Norwegian immigrants. It is named after East Bethel Township, in neighboring Polk County. The first settlers arrived in 1854 and were part of the Dakota Sioux Tribe. After they were removed from their land in 1865, they started to settle on what is now the east side of town. In 1870 they formed a Presbyterian church which still operates today. East Bethel became a village in 1898 and then a city in 1912. It has since reverted to its original name as East Bethel Township. The city had a total population of 653 as of the 2010 census. The biggest industry within the city limits is agriculture with crops such as corn, soybeans, apples, and wheat being grown. Other major industries include manufacturing (including several large companies), health care services, and retail sales for local businesses such as convenience stores and pharmacies. East Bethel is a town in Clearwater County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. The name "East Bethel" was given to the community by James H. Easton, who had named it after his paternal ancestor Ebenezer Easton. The first settler in what is now East Bethel was Abram Snedeker, who arrived in 1857. He built a small cabin on the east side of village Lake Superior and raised corn and wheat until 1860 when he sold his land to John Lyle for $1,000. A year later, Lyle married Anna Maria Fenton and set out to become a farmer himself. In 1865 they bought another piece of land which they donated to Clearwater County for use as a township square. They also founded the first school in what is now East Bethel Township in 1870. In 1871 Isaac Prentice started farming on an acreage that he donated near the present day intersection of State Highway 6 and Maple Street; this farm would eventually amount to over 20 acres (8 hectares). By 1878 all of this land had been purchased from Prentice by Elisha Frost Jr., making him one of the largest landowners within the original township square boundaries. Frost formed a partnership with two other men: Solomon Ely and George Wirthlinbothamand began farming together on about 10 acres (4 hectares) north-west of their farmstead known as White Sands Prairie . This area became known as Northfield because many settlers there were descendants of Finnish immigrants who had come toMinnesota during1851-1859 specifically for agricultural purposes." In 1881 Frost organized what would become Clearwater County's first election precinct; he served as its first commissioner/temporary chairman." On December 2nd 1870 Rev John Guthrie preached his last sermon in honor of Dr Jesse Kapp before his death less than one week later at age 54 years old from tuberculosis contracted while traveling westward across Canada with wagon train bound for Dodge City; Guthrie posthumously bequeathed $5 per month toward funds used towards free health clinics operated by Minnesota Women's Relief Society beginning in 1875." After Kapp's funeral several hundred people gathered at Unity Baptist Church located southeast corner Main Street and Elm Street where Rev John Baldwin preached "A Prayer For America" attracting much attention due mostly due to its peaceful protesters inside which included future Ulysses S Grant although numerous law enforcement officers were present along with local dignitaries including Mayor Jacob Benderof Minneapolis". Although most easterners believed that Grant should have been made President instead of Lincoln because they felt that Grant could have solved more social problems such as Reconstruction or ending slavery then Abraham Lincoln did they ultimately supported Ulysses S Grant when he ran for office again four years later ."
