East Bethel is a small town in Minnesota, United States. The population was 621 at the 2010 census. It lies about 20 miles (32 km) east of Minneapolis and is bordered by the states of Wisconsin and Iowa. The town was founded in 1851, when a group of settlers from Illinois moved to what is now East Bethel after being forced out of their home by the Native Americans. The name came from an old German word meaning "east." In 1876, the community purchased land on which it sat, making it its own municipality. In 1902, East Bethel hosted the first international fair in the United States. That same year saw the founding of the American Legion here and in 1907, East Bethel became one of only two towns in America to be chartered as an educational institution – becoming Wellesley College’s first college town. In 1925, East Bethel merged with neighboring rural village Watertown to form a new municipality known as Watertown-East Bethel. That merger made it possible for EastBethel residents to vote on municipal issues separate from those dealt with by their rural counterparts. Watertown-Eastbethel lost its status as a municipality when it merged with Minneapolis in 2000 but regained it when Minneapolis split into two separate municipalities - one for suburbanites and one for downtowners - within five years. Today, there are still many people who identify themselves as "east bethellians" or "watertownians." Residents attend services held at both local churches and Holy Cross Catholic School located just outside of town on County Highway 10A (Route 56). There are also several businesses that continue to serve residents even though they're not part of the municipality: Shoprite supermarket chain; Jiffy Lube service station; RCA Service Corporation (now Comcast); Twin Cities Mortgage Company; prominent architect Desmond Morris designed three homes that remain standing today – all reflect elements typical of pioneer architecture such as mud ceilings andGothic Revival features - atop long rows of white poplar trees lining either side of Main Street between Fourth Street/ US 12W/ County Road 10A & 11S (the present day border between Watertown & East Bethel). According to 2010 census data, there were 621 people living in Eastern Bethelial Village including 511 households and 453 families residing therein per 100 total inhabitants*. Outlying villages had 1 inhabitant per 100 population*, while non-village settlements had no resident citizens.* *The above figures include individuals who reside within villages which have their own post office*

The post failed to materialize and the settlers abandoned the village in 1870. In 1871, East Bethel incorporated as a city under the name Minneapolis; however, it did not achieve significant growth until after World War II when heavy industry arrived and demand for housing increased. In 1960, East Bethel became an agricultural center with land devoted to raising corn, wheat, soybeans and other crops; however, this focus has since disappeared as more people have moved into downtowns or established themselves in adjoining neighborhoods. Today, East Bethel is known primarily for its historical attractions which include its Methodist church (built in 1865), commercial district (including several restaurants and stores) and Native American heritage sites including two cemeteries dating back to 1851.
