The following year, they opened up shop for local farmers at what would become the first store in the town center – known then as "the Landing." By 1865, Eagan had incorporated as a village with a government buildings on Main Street between First Avenue and Fourth Avenue – one of only two villages in Ramsey County at that time (the other being Falcon Heights). The early years of this century were difficult for both Eagonians and their new hometown; during the American Civil War (1861-1865), much property was taken by Ulysses S Grant's forces for military use in Dakota Territory (now North Dakota) while everyone else fought on behalf of Confederate States Of America (CSO). This resulted in many businesses being closed or relocated within the community during that time; although some did manage to stay open thanks to support from friends or family members outside the town limits – such as local farmer Jens Wessels' grocery store which continued to be open even after most other storefronts around town closed due to prohibition laws passed shortly thereafter. However much progress was made since then; through hard work and creativity over many decades by both residents and citizens alike; today's vibrant downtown has emerged as one of Twin Cities' most vibrant neighborhoods with a rich cultural history dating back centuries!
