On July 16, 1856, five men from Nilsen shipyard in Kristiania (now Oslo) brought over 400 acres (16 ha) of forest and meadow land to what would become Eagan with $10 each when they paid for it with goods they had brought over from Norway: axles and horseshoes, nails and lumber including two oak trees donated by Rasmus Andersen Mortensen; salt pork; potatoes; cheese; flour; eggs; butter; cloths and saddles for their horses used on their journey northward from Hadrian's Wall into new Sweden! On February 14th 1907 the town charter was passed which added "Eagan" to the name given it when it was organized as a separate municipality within Hennepin County – today’s Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area! This gave us our namesake – an 8-mile long river running through town center called “theidken” or 'the edge'. In recent years there have been efforts made to improve access to transportation options so residents can continue living here without having to travel away from our great city – something we are all grateful for!
