Eagan is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,841 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The name of Eagan comes from English meaning "oak tree." The first settler in what is now Eagan was John Aitken who came to the area in 1854. He and his family were among the first Europeans to settle here and built a log cabin on the edge of what is now Eagan Lake. They named their place after an oak tree on their farmstead which they saw while harvesting corn near Fort Snelling in 1855. In 1861, Majestic Land Company founded by Alexander McIntosh acquired 640 acres (248 hectares) of land east of present day Eagan Lake for $3 per acre ($10/km²). This land became known as McIntosh Prairie and later as Dakota Territory along with nearby Elk River Township (now Anoka County). In 1871,Missouri Compromise finally recognized Dakota Territory and this gave rise to the idea that a town would be established here to serve as its capital. On November 15th,1871,5 men from Minneapolis organized into a group called "The First City Club" and petitioned for incorporation as the Town of Rochester but it did not receive enough signatures so they disbanded six months later. On January 6th, 1872 when Dakota Territory was divided into homestead counties based on cattle drives being made through it people living near Red Wing started coming downriver seeking passage to California where gold was found On July 17th 1870 Milburn Cramer purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast of present day Eagan from Majestic Land Company for $2 per acre ($6/km²). This land became known as Crazy Horse Ranch after General Custer's horse Crazy Horse which he bought during his expedition against Paint Creek Indians in 1876 Eagan began to grow rapidly due to its location beside two major rivers and its easy access to transportation via boat or wagon roadways such as State Road 21 which led directly into Duluth In 1904 local farmers got together and founded Northern Minnesota Grain Elevator which has produced wheat since 1907 . The city annexed the village in 1909 when it became part of Minneapolis
Eagan is a city in Minnesota, United States. The population was 54,832 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Hennepin County and the second-largest city in Minneapolis County. Eagan is named for Swedish settler Erik Egan, who arrived in 1857. Eagan was founded as a farmstead on what is now East Broadway Street by Norwegian immigrants Ole and Karen Sverdrup. In 1875, they erected the first school building in Eagan, which served as a Methodist Episcopal Church from 1876 to 1888. In 1902, the town of Eagan incorporated as a municipality; its first mayor was Oscar Wirths. The City of Eagan website explains that "the early days were harsh: there was little money to be made and many people died trying to start businesses." However, over time community members worked together to create successful businesses such as lumberyards and breweries; today's businesses include several restaurants and retailers including Macy's Department Store (nowTarget), Barnes & Noble bookstore chain, Target's Menard's department store branch, Nordstrom Rack amoung other major retailers spread throughout downtown Minneapolis/St Paul area., St Cloud State University (Now Minnesota State University Mankato), Dollar Tree stores across MN., three professional sports teams - the Minnesota Vikings Football team (now American Football League) playing their home games at TCF Bank Stadium north of downtown Minneapolis/St Paul., Duluth Ice Hockey Club () playing their home games at US Airways Center south of downtown Minneapolis/St Paul., and two golf courses - one located on an east side agricultural property owned by local family member Jim Young (), while another golf course located west of town off I-94 about 10 miles east of centralMinnesota has been developed into a multi-million dollar hotel complex known as Crossroads Golf Resort & Conference Facility (). In addition to its namesake riverfront park system with 12 acres (5 ha) of open space within minutes' walk or bike ride from most areas along both banks of Lake Superior – anchored by headquarters for The Nature Conservancy – civic organizations have built large open spaces around campus bordering SR 522 including Park Place Marketplace (.7 million sqft.), Pioneer Square (.9 million sqft.), Discovery Park (.1 million sqft.), Midtown Crossing (.3 million sqft.)
