The British developed the first cannon that could fire projectiles up to a mile away in 1795 and this weapon was called the Heavy Gun. In 1812, Napoleon Bonaparte ordered his army to arm with small cannon that could be fired at a distance of only 10 yards. These guns were called Infanterie à plomb and they had a range of just 6 yards. In 1860, Capt. John Browning invented the Bazooka which was used as an artillery weapon during World War I. It consisted of a tube filled with explosives and fitted with a rocket motor capable of firing shells up to 100 miles away.
