Coon Rapids is a small city in the US state of Minnesota, located on the banks of the Missouri River. The population was 11,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The name "Coon Rapids" may be derived from an Ojibwe word meaning "place where two canoes meet." The first white settlers in what is now Coon Rapids were French Canadian fur traders and missionaries working along the upperMissouri River in 1824-25. They named their settlement after a local band of Ojibwe, Coonaarsiikwag (Creek). In 1869, settlers from Wisconsin founded a lumber town near present day Blue Earth onthe opposite side of the river from Coon Rapids. Steel production began in nearby Menominee Falls in 1901, which led to Coon Rapids becoming an important steel center during World War II. In 1957-58, when Interstate Highway 66 was built through central Minnesota and into Illinois, Coon Rapids became one of its arterial routes. The city saw growth as more people moved into its neighborhoods; today it has over 100 businesses and 2,000 residents. Today's economy revolves around health care services and recreation - both for residents and visitors - as well as food service and professional services such as law enforcement and engineering. Manufacturing also has been developing in recent years with new companies coming to town; among them are three major textile mills: Armoury Paper Products Company (now Allergan), Hormel Foods Corporation (Hormel) and Anheuser Busch Brewing Company (AnheuserBusch). In the early 1800s, firearms were not as common as they are today. There were only a few major gun manufacturers and handguns were mainly used by the military or law enforcement. The first soft gun cases appeared in 1812 when Major General George Washington ordered his troops to carry pistols in their baggage. This led to the development of holster-style cases that could be fastened around a soldier’s waistband. These cases allowed for easy access to firearms should they become lost or stolen. The popularity of soft gun cases began to decline during the 19th century because it became more difficult and time-consuming to produce high-quality pistol case products. However, this did not stop people from wanting them and this led to the development of new hard case types that could be produced more cheaply and quickly. Eventually, these new hard case types became popular among civilians as well, making soft gun cases less common than they once were.
The first soft case I ever made was for a .22 caliber rifle. It was very simple, just a piece of cloth with a hole in it so the ammo could go into the gun, and some screws to hold it together.
