Since the early days of America, there has been a fascination with firearms. From the Revolution to today, people have always been drawn to owning and using firearms for protection. One of the earliest examples of this love affair can be found in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. In 1854, The First National Bank opened its doors in what is now known as downtown Coon Rapids. At that time, there were just a few homes and businesses in the town and no public square or gun store. To provide customers with what they needed, The First National Bank built its own armory on Second Street east of Main Street. This armory was used until 1961 when it was replaced by present day United Gun Store on Third Street inside the old bank building. The history of handguns in Coon Rapids goes back even further than this first armory! In 1875, Captain John affidavits that he imported two pistols from Russia “for use by law enforcement officers”. It seems likely that these pistols were not actually used for crime prevention but were instead given as gifts to friends and family members who happened to live in the town at the time. Firearms owners in Coon Rapids continued to enjoy their ownership rights until 1934 when an Act was passedwhich made it illegal to possess any firearm without a license! This Act didn’t sit well with many citizens who saw themselves as rightful protectors of their communities and felt that their right had been taken away without notice or reason. As a result, several guerrilla-style attacks against police officers took place throughout 1935-1936 which led to increased security measures being put into place around town including erecting more fences and hiring more personnel! Despite these precautions, however, on January 20th 1936 three gunmen stormed into United Gun Store carrying automatic weapons and randomly shooting everyone within sight! Five people died (four policemen and one civilian) while twenty-two others were injured; eleven of these injuries required hospitalization. It is interesting to note that this attack occurred during a period where handgun licensing was still an actively popular practice in Minnesota! Despite this alarming event (and subsequent response from local police), business continued relatively stable until 1939 when things beganto change radically within the gun industry after Nazi Germany invaded Poland!. Suddenly all guns became very valuable as shipments came into North America stop arriving at all! This sent demand skyrocketing for new models and manufacturers who could not keep up with production specs!! All too soon after World War II ended Europe experienced another series of depressions which led some manufacturers offshore!!! This decision caused thousands of jobs loss across Great Lakes Region while also depriving locals of vital tools like handguns which would have helped them stay safe during times of economic turmoil…. That is why you find so many musty old Glock pistols lying around unused within city limits nowadays!!!!

In 1933, the Minnesota National Guard Armory opened on Third Avenue between Masonic Drive and University Boulevard; it served as the state's armory for several years before being converted into apartments in 1951-1954.

Coon Rapids is a small town in southern Minnesota, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settler in Coon Rapids was Alexander McFarlane, who arrived in 1854. He and his family built a log cabin on a peninsula in what is now downtown Coon Rapids. The McFarlane name may be derived from their farm near Fort Snelling which they named "Coon Rapids." The post office at Coon Rapids was established on July 1, 1857, and remained open until 1966. In 1860, John Sargent settled in what is now east side of town and began to irrigate land there. In 1865 he sold his land to the Hennepin County Land Company for $1,000 cash and received a deed that stated: "To wit: I give my full consent that the village of Coon Rapids be erected upon this piece of property conveyed to me by said company; Said village being bounded northerly by Hennepin Avenue (now State Road 6), westerly by Second Street (now Interstate 94), southerly by Third Street (now University Avenue), and easterly by Fourth Street." Sargent's heirs continued to operate the irrigation system until it closed in 1950 after years of damage caused by heavy rains during wintertime. Hennepin County commissioned an engineering study which recommended demolishing most or all of Sargent's irrigation system because it was no longer able to meet contemporary standards for water purity and efficiency; however, county officials decided instead to replace it with more efficient systems similar to those used today. The original Sargent Canal canals remain extant as parts of Riverfront Park managed by the city of Minneapolis along with several other remnants of early 20th century Minneapolis community life including churches and schools which are also located within Riverfront Park boundaries today.. Today's south side streets leading into downtown were laid out as part of Streetscape Plan No . 3 when co-ordination among developers ended late 1960s/early 1970s - prioritizing suburban development over downtown redevelopment Coon Rapids had been hoping for . Coon Rapids was founded on August 15, 1854 by James Hickey and his wife Martha Crouse Hickey as a trading post on the Upper Mississippi River. The name of the town derived from a CreeksideIndian word meaning "place where water flows abundantly." The first settler in what would become Coon Rapids was James Hickey who arrived in 1854 with his family from New York City. He built a cabin and named it Hickey's Point after his home state of New York. In 1865, John Aiken came to Minnesota and bought land west of present day Coon Rapids which he called Aiken's Landing. He started to build cabins here and named them Aiken's Cove (later Cedar Rapids). Eventually, these settlements developed into what are now known as Coon Rapids and Cedar Rapids Township
