Cloquet is a small town in Dakota and Minnesota, located about 20 miles east of Fargo. The population was 1,964 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 census, it had shrunk to 1,620. Cloquet is part of the Fargo-Moorhead Micropolitan Statistical Area. Cloquet was founded in 1857 as a trading post on the Red River by fur traders from Russia and Siberia. In 1902, Cloquet became an incorporated municipality with a population of 517. It lost its municipal status in 1967 but has been restored as a village since then. The name of the original trading post is unknown, but it likely derived from Choctaw Coquillettah meaning "the place where the reeds grow". In 1865, Phebe Hill opened her flower nursery here which continues to operate today under various names including Hill Nursery and Florist Shop; Mrs Phebe Hill's Flowers; and current operation Pine RidgeFlora Incorporated.. The first school in Cloquet was built in 1882 by Aiden McKnight and his father John McKnight II with pupils coming from nearby Moorhead. One of these early educators was Jens Jensen who taught Weems' Academy until 1888 when he moved to Canada to become Superintendent of Indian Affairs schools there before returning to teach for one year at Moorhead High School before moving back across the border to Cloquet where he opened Gopher Prairie Male Female Seminary in 1889. In 1893 local banker John Hennepin donated land for a public high school that would serve students from all over the community including those living near Moorhead High School (now known as Northwood High School). Heeding Hennepin's advice not to build too close together because they would be difficult for students and their teachers to walk between classes or use common facilities such as washrooms, cloakroom/gymnasiums or Library), Clouet erected its first public building on this site: A wooden frame gymnasium/washroom addition which still stands today (along side current day Main Street) - used by both Clouet male students during morning classes while also serving as classrooms during afternoons peak; cloiet female students during lunchtimeand evening classes when instruction would be more limited due to availability of faculty members Institutes were soon added: A two-story classroom wing on top of what is now cloche Middle School & An annex on Union Avenue - used primarily for art lessons & extra curricular activities like music & dance tuition For many years this complex served as both Schools combined untiluddermoroughly separate physical buildings were constructed adjacentto each other on Richards Road NW corner Elmendorf Road NE resulting in large increasein enrollment at NorthwoodHighSchool comparedtocloitemuralSpace! Today we can see evidenceofthis formerly large facility - 4 old woodframedClassicalstyle doors leading into 3 classroom wings each room measuring 60" X 36", 2 large multipaned windowscurtained by low hinged green dalmatian style screens uppercase lettering "CloET" above left window sills & matching trim around exterior doorknob juiced up against well hued brick wall! These classrooms remain largely unchanged even though much newer construction has taken place within their boundaries recently! Additionally remaining parts OGCUH have been retained including original belltower (now home office), rotunda (formerly worship sanctuary), auditorium (formerly Used warehouse), gift shop/entertainment hall etc., along with several contributing historical residences dating backTo 1865!

However, during World War I Cloquet faced discrimination from American soldiers who thought its residents were "cheap" people. The community slowly recovered after the war, and today is home to a mix of Norwegian (and other European) refugees and recent Americans. It began as an agricultural town with few industries until 1903 when Pickering County became one of the first counties in Minnesota to establish oil production offshore from shorelines. The history of Cloquet begins with Norwegian immigrants who arrived in 1857. After some initial struggles they managed to create a thriving community on the west edge of what would become known as their natural gas Boomtowns era where they constructed homes, stores and schools which continue to operate to this day. Many key natives such as Morris Jenssen Sr., Ole Olsen et al played important roles in this early development including being among the original incorporators of Cloquet Township (1863). In 1916-17 when much activity took place off shore due to World War I many residents decided it would be best if they moved closer to services offered by local governments like Stroudsburg (then Roanoke) so their communities could survive together peacefully through wartime times while still benefiting from commerce generated by distant markets which had already closed down or changed hands since hostilities ended several months earlier! This idea eventually came into fruition with incorporation of neighboring townships into Pickering County - Allendale (1920), Cleckley Heights (1924), Islay Heights (1926), Northshore Heights(1929) & finally Park Rapids Township(1930). Today most businesses are large multi-national corporations with headquarters located outside Pickering County but many locals still work hard at their local businesses providing essential services such as retail sales & service shops; health care; manufacturing; transportation; accounting/finance; restaurant/bar/cafeteria service etcetera within our thriving community that has experienced significant growth over recent decades thanks largely to its location within easy access proximity of major cities like Minneapolis & Stroudsburg making it easy for both newcomers & current residents alike for shopping, dining out or simply taking advantage of all that our vibrant county hasto offer!
