Cloquet, Minnesota is home to the world's second largest gun store. The store was built in 1905 and has been selling firearms ever since. It is one of the few remaininggun stores in town, and it has a long history of protecting its customers. The Cloquet Gun Store has been involved in many shootings throughout its history. In 1911, two gunmen walked into the store and began shooting at customers. One customer was killed, and the other was shot three times before being subdued by police. In 1916, a gunman entered the store with a gun and began shooting randomly at people inside. No one was killed, but four people were injured. In 1949, an intruder entered the Cloquet Gun Store with a knife and demanded money from the sales clerks. The gunman used his shotgun to shoot him dead before fleeingthe scene. In 1974, someone opened fire on a group of teenagers outside of the store after getting lost in the crowd. Two teenagers were killed, and six others were gunshot wounds suffered during that attack which left Cloquet with its first homicide victim in decades

Cloquet is a town in Rice County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Cloquet is located on the south side of the Mississippi River. Cloquet was founded in 1857 by Georges Cloquet and his wife, Amie de laBorde. They named their town after their home village of Cloitiers in Normandy. The Cloquets sold their holdings in Claxton Township to the township trustees in 1892. In 1916, the Cloquet name was changed to Rice after James Fentonrice Rice donated land for a post office and school within what would become Rice County. The first store opened in Cloquet on October 14, 1886 by Dolphus Piquette and Heman Vogt. Store Hours were 8:00 am to 6:00 pm from Monday through Friday and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from Saturday then until 2:00 pm on Sundays closed during summer months when crops are not grown; hours were extended an extra hour on weekdays during rush hours due to demand from residents for goods unavailable during normal business hours In 1907, George Wetherbee became the first black settler in Cloquet when he moved from Minneapolis with his family and began farming near present-day downtown Cloquet; he also started a gas station there which provided light service until 1960 Wetherbee's farm included sections now within present-day rural Rice County as well as parts of Walnut Creek Township east of Claxton . He had five children who all survived into adulthood: Wilbur Wetherbee (1910-1994), Addie Mae Wetherbee (1912-1993), George Eileen Wetherbee (1920-2008), Lois Lillian Wetherbee (1924-)and Alice Myrtle "Mama" Driver (1929-) Cloquet Post Office opened on October 20th 1906 with Nellie Beeson as the first employee . It served residents of Claxton Township and later became part of Rice County before being discontinued in 1959 . The current building was built circa 1951 . In 1916, James Fentonrice rice donated land for a post office and school within what would become Rice County ; this initial structure served residents of both Claxton Township & Rice County until it closed operation circa 1959 . Mrs Fentonrice continued to serve as mail carrier for both counties until her death some time between 1961 - 1966 . In 1957 Mr Fentonrice repurchased all originalClaxton Township property including old post office building & garage which still stands today

The community began as a farmstead called Cloquet Station, which was founded in 1868 by General John A. Macdonald and his wife Margaret (). Cloquet, who had been an important figure in Minnesota politics from 1865 to 1889 and later served as governor of Iowa (1893-95). Samuel's parents were from Cloquet Township, within Hennepin County. In 1902, a post office was established at Claxton for use by rural farmers who did not have access to mail service through Minneapolis or St. Paul. By 1916, however, all post offices had been discontinued within Hennepin County due to budget cuts by county commissioners; only Claxton continued until it closed in 1970.) Cloquet also became home to two churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1886) and Unitarian Universalist Church (established 1895). Both congregations disbanded around 1912 but their buildings remain standing today as private homes: First Presbyterian moved out of its original location between 1922 and 1924 while Unitarian Universalist left its original building between 1945 and 1949 before moving into its current location on North Seventh Street just west of Lake Harriet Boulevard; both structures are currently used as apartments.
