In 1922, Clovis Wagon Wheel merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester-Winchester Repeating Arms Company. This company made rifles, handguns and other firearms until it was sold to Colt Corporation in 1968. The Cloquet Arsenal is a historic arsenal located at 3201 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, Minnesota 55011-0001. It was built between 1901 and 1903 by J.P Morgan for the defense of hisCloquet land holdings during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The arsenal consisted of three buildings: a powder magazine; a foundry; and an armory storehouse/200-man barracks/army headquarters complex which also served as a training ground for Union soldiers before their deployment into battle on various campaigns across America during that conflict including Gettysburg (July 4th 1863), Vicksburg (October 19th 1870), Chattanooga (November 15th 1892) etc.. After World War I ended in 1918 weapons production at the arsenal slowed but did not stop altogether; however it closed its doors permanently due to budget restraints following World War II onward.. The arsenal reopened as part of MnDOT's Division Of History And Artifacts Management Branch pursuant to Order No.: 2003–0027 dated September 10th 2003 under management of MnDOT Historic Preservation Officer Noel Aiken who is responsible for initial planning/coordination with local historical organizations such as the Cloquet Arsenal Museum Incorporated et al..
