The first store in Chaska was built by Hjalmar Andersen and his family in 1912. The Andersen brothers ran the business until they sold it to Harry Mayden in 1916. Mayden operated the store until he died in 1951. In 1938, Harry's son John Mayden Jr., took over the store and continued to run it until his death in 1987. In 1988, Chaska joined with nearby town of Maplewood to form the new village of Chaska-Maplewood Combined Statistical Area (CSA).

In 2008-2009, Hurricane Gustav made landfall in northern Minnesota and caused significant damage to homes and businesses in Chaska and other nearby townships. Many people lost their jobs or were forced to sell their homes in order to survive. The parade that year was one of the largest ever held in Chaska; almost 100 people participated! Chaska is home to many notable residents including writers Fannie Flagg and Toni Morrison as well as actors Woody Harrelson and Don Cheadle among others.

The Darnells operated a mill at Chaska until 1862 when they moved to Stillwater and started another business there. In 1865, John Darnell sold his interest in the mill to Isaac Dunham who continued to operate it until he died in 1932. In 1903, local resident James Wessel bought the mill from Dunham's estate for $1,500 cash only – making him one of the earliest entrepreneurs to invest in Chaska's future as an agricultural community. Although not too important historically speaking, another landmark associated with Chaska is the first post office which opened in 1896. At that time there were only a handful of people living hereabouts and mail was sent out by horseback or boat across Lake Superior! The post office closed down around 1915 because of lack of mail traffic despite being open seven days per week! Today, there are just two businesses remaining in Chaska – both farms! Although this may not seem like much considering how big things have changed here since 1896, it still tells part of history story about this small town which continues to make progress even though its resources have been depleted multiple times throughout its lifetime!
