Gun barrels have a long and varied history in Chaska, Minnesota. Many different types of guns have been made with barrel changes as an important part of the manufacturing process, including pistols, shotguns, rifles, and even cannons. One of the earliest firearms in Chaska was a muzzleloader known as the “Pine Bluff Rifle”. This gun was designed by George Armstrong Custer and first used by him during the American Civil War. The rifle was made from ten-inch barrel lengths that were bored into the sides of hills to create channels for bullets to travel down. In 1887, a group of men named Crowell founded the first gunsmith shop in Chaska. They started out making shotgun barrels but soon began producing rifles as well. Their success allowed them to set up their own manufacturing plant which continued production until 1911. During this time they also became one of the largest manufacturers of shotguns in town. In 1958, two brothers named Donelson opened a small printing business on Main Street called The News Rag Shop. At first they only printed newspaper articles but soon began producing guns too. In 1976 they moved their business to 200 First Avenue and continued producing firearms until 2003 when they sold everything except for their presses and machines to another company who still operate them today (Donelson Arms). Throughout their years of operation they continue to produce innovative firearms that are still being used today across America!

Chaska is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and was named for Captain George Chaska, an early settler on the upper Mississippi River. The first Europeans to visit what is now Chaska were fur traders in 1824. The town was founded in 1856 by Capt. George Chaska and his family as a trading post on the Minnesota side of the Upper Mississippi River. The post served as a staging ground for goods arriving downriver from Wisconsin and Michigan settlement along the Great Lakes region. In 1862, Union General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all military units within twenty miles of Minneapolis to fall back to their original positions; this order caused much consternation among residents of Chaska who believed that they would be left vulnerable should hostilities break out again near their town site on the river bank. That same year, Captain George Chaska donated land south of present-day Chaska for a public school and church complex which still stands todaycomplete with its own graveyard). In 1865, during Indian Wars fought between Native Americans and settlers across central Minnesota, Christian Missionary Society missionaries arrived in what is now Chaska to proselytize among local Sioux Indians who were hostile towards European influence. All these events led to increased business activity at the post throughout late 19th century until it closed its doors in 1906 due to budget cuts by then- governor John Davenport (DFL). However, before closure it housed one of the largest mercantile organizations west of St Louis during this time period with more than 350 employees located at various stores along Main Street including J & H Perkins Grocery Store where author Fanny Flagg worked at one point as a cashier/checker during prohibition years from 1919 till 1923 when she converted to Christianity under threat of jail time.; also located here were Wabasha Feed Mill which operated until 1918 when it burned down; Pillsbury Manufacturing Company’s red brick Factory #2 which opened in 1916 and continued operations until 1945 before being turned into residential housing; Rusk’s store which reopened after being shuttered for nine months by fire in 1951; finally there was also an ice cream parlor called “the cone” operated by Mrs Jessup from 1929 until her death in 1977.) chaska lost its municipal status following annexation into neighboring Bloomington but remained listed on city zoning maps until 1984 when it reverted back to rural zoning designation effective January 1st according theretofore unknown historical reasons.). Census data released in 2000 reveals that population had decreased since 1990 even though crime rates have not changed significantly since1990 however poverty rates have increasing been reported over recent years) Captain George Chaska – born February 4th 1796 – died December 10th 1865 aged 71 years old while serving as Commissioner District No 5 SecretaryMinnesota Land Office he helped organize Territorial government including purchase of land eastward up river from Dakota Territory - donation land south off present day chaka Creek Rd.,Chaska formed plat thereof dated Sept 21 1856 recording gift name:George Washington Caskara - map filed Dec 23 1860 with territorial commissioners)) married Anna Maria Ackermann October 25 1827 (age 27) ditto children:George Washington Ackermann (born November 12th 1830), Anna Margarita Ackermann (born March 12th 1832), Julia Aventine Ackermann (born July 7th 1834)).

Chaska was founded in 1862 by Jacob Chaska and his brothers. The Chaskas were one of the early settlers in what is now Minnesota. In 1876, the Chaska family donated land to the state for the construction of a state road. The road is now named after them.
