Gun magazines have a long and proud history in Minnesota. A number of different types and sizes were published during the 1800s, and gun ownership slowly began to increase throughout this time. In 1907, the first magazine law in Minnesota was passed, which required registration of all firearms. This law led to an increased demand for magazines, as well as more efficient manufacturing practices. Gun magazines continued to grow in popularity throughout the 1920s and 1930s, thanks in part to the success of Second Amendment rights organizations such as The National Rifle Association (NRA). During World War II, many newspapers reported on gun confiscations by the Japanese forces. This led to growing concern over gun control in Minnesota. In 1947, the NRA founded The MN Rifle Association (TMA), which continues to be one of the largest GUN Clubs in North America today. In 1990, TMA joined forces with The American Legion to form The MN Gun Club (AGC). This alliance helped promote responsible firearm ownership within our state’s armed services community. Today,gun magazines continue play an important role within our society. They provide opportunities for individuals who may not be able or interested in owning a firearm themselves to learn about how best to protect themselves from harm. The first gun magazine in Chanhassen, Minnesota was the "Chanhassen Rifleman" published by the Chanhassen Rifle Club. The club was formed in 1892 and met at the local grocery store. In 1903, they printed their own paper called the "Chanhassen Republican". In 1907, they began publishing a newsletter called "The Rifleman" which lasted until 1928. In 1924, they adopted a new name - "The Journal of American Pistol and Shotgun Association" - to reflect their growing international membership. In 1935, they merged with the "National Gunsmiths Magazine", which had been published for two decades before. From 1936-1941, they were published as part of the "Journal of America". In 1945-1946, they became an official journal of the NRA.
Chanhassen, Minnesota is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,859 at the 2010 census. Chanhassen is located on the banks of the Mississippi River near its confluence with the Ottawa River. It was founded in 1881 as a small community on an older trading post and has since grown to be a political and cultural center of westernMinnesota. The first permanent settler in Chanhassen was George Aitken who arrived in 1881. He leased land from the Dakota Sioux and started to build a log cabin. By 1886, he had built two more cabins and named his new town after his friend Commodore John Fenton of HMS " Victoria" during her tour of duty through Minnesota waters in 1885-86. In early 1890s when many people were moving into westernMinnesota because of the railroad Mania there were few places for them to live so Aitken's friends decided to move him too so they could start their own town where they could have their own store and get away from bad company syndrome that characterized most rural settlements at that time (the term "bad company syndrome" refers to established businesses which are not always friendly or welcoming towards newcomers). They called their new settlement Chanhassen after George Aitken's friend Commodore John Fenton who had commandeered HMS "Victoria" during her visit to westernMinnesota in 1885-86. Chanhassen grew rapidly from its original settlers until it reached its peak population of 3,000 people by 1904 when immigrants began flooding into easternMinnesota due to agricultural depression brought about by World War I. In 1920 the first post office opened in Chanhassen with eleven residents; however, it closed within one year due largely to mail fraud committed by postmaster Simeon Wohlgemuth Jr.. AITKEN STORE & GARDENS - George Aitken opened his store on Main Street adjacent to what is now known as North High School (now part of Parkway Central High School) back then known as First National Bank building on October 11th 1889 which incidentally also served as the first meeting house for Chanhassen Presbyterian Church until 1913 when it moved across Maple Avenue into what is now South High School (now part of Parkway Central Middle School). The Store continued operate until circa 1912 before closing due primarily To energy shortages caused by heavy industry around this time period along with other factors including Prohibition Era Glaswegian businessman Chasch Malcomson opening up his grocery store opposite First National Bank just south side Maple avenue next door starting business December 15th 1903 continuing operations until 1922 selling produce along with liquor directly from premise resulting in several law suits against ChaschMalcomson over this matter(see photo below). After Chasch Malcomson's death young son Alaric ran store concurrent with father thru 1923 adding meat products/poultry etc eventually becoming state owned Chanhassens first grocery Store 1924 ceasing operations effective January 1st 1925 (& photo below) . Chanhassen, Minnesota is a small town in the Osage Hills region of Minneapolis County, Minnesota. The population was 7,756 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Chanhassen was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1876 and named for Chrétien de Champlain, Sieur de Chanhassen (1624-1699), captain of the French ship La Belle Espérance and an early explorer of North America. The first post office in Chanhassen was established in 1879. The first store opened in 1889. By 1910, there were four businesses in Chanhassen: a grocery store, two blacksmiths, and a bakery/carmelite convent school. The town center developed around its three churches: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (1888), Saint John's Lutheran Church (1910), and First Christmastime Baptist Church (1912). Chanhassen experienced several natural disasters during the 1990s including floods that destroyed many homes and businesses, forest fires that destroyed dozens of trees, and tornadoes that killed six people and injured more than 120 people. However, since 2000 both the economy and community have been improving with new investments such as a new library addition to downtown Chanhassen as well as several high-tech companies which have brought much job growth to the town over the past few years
