Champlin is a city in west-central Minnesota, United States. The population was 8,993 at the 2010 census. Champlin is the county seat of Ramsey County. It was founded in 1857 by Swedish emigrants and named after Emanuel Champlin, an early settler. Champlin is located on the eastern border of Ramsey County and within the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlers arrived in what is now Ramsey County in 1857, when Emanuel Champlin and his family picked up land from the Dakota nation east of Minneapolis on what would become known as Hennepin County Road 9. After a year's survey, Champlin named his new township "Champlin" for him and his seven children: Chasuble (1851-1927), Emma (1853-1941), John A(dolph) (1855-1925), Edwin K(eo)din (1858-1920), Charles Everson (1860-1945), and Sarah J(eane) Gabelnicki (1864-1945). At first only men were allowed to farm; but soon women also began to settle there, starting families with husbands or brothers who had left their homes to join them in Iowa or other states during the Kansas–Nebraska crisis that followed President Abraham Lincoln's election victory over Andrew Johnson on November 2, 1868. In 1870,301 residents lived in "Champlerville," which included today's downtown core of business districts around Sixteenth Street SW and University Avenue NE; its limits extended westward just beyond present day Interstate 94E near Maplewood Heights before turning southeast along US Highway 169 to run concurrent with I-94W near Rochester Hills until reaching Mankato about two miles northeast of town center. In 1871, following charter requirements set by Minnesota Territory governor Julius Trauger he appointed 5 commissioners to develop a system of public roads throughout all territorial lands east of Stroudsburg Creek – this system became known as "Trauger Roads." With help from banker/commerce magnate Elias Wohlgemuth and others including lumber baron David Hackett Postelmann – himself born into a Pennsylvania Dutch family – these road developers built more than 12 miles of primary routes through virgin forest country between Chanhassen Lake north of Bloomington and Clearwater River south of Stillwater via Deer Lodge Rapids; they also laid out secondary routes connecting larger settlements such as Canailles Landing northwest of Hibbing with Apple Valley south of Brooklyn Park; homebuilders continued to build roads even after statehood because no money was available for it under Territorial government provisions that exempted counties from having any local responsibility for transportation unless they formed road commissions which sang revenue hymns emanating from chokepoints along highways like I-394 corridor outside Duluth . Champlin is a small town in northwestern Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,906 at the 2010 census. Champlin was platted in 1857 by John and Maria Champlin of Detroit, Michigan. It is named for General James Haggerty Champlin, who served as U.S.Army commander during the Indian Wars of 1855-1856 and emerged as a hero to many residents. After the Civil War, Champlin became an agricultural center with large fruit orchards and dairy farms; it also produced hay and straw for fertilizer production until the 1970s. The history of Champlin begins with three pioneers: John Champlin (1807-1868), his wife Maria (died 1865), and their son George W. Champlin (1829-1906). The Chammlins arrived in what is now northwest Minnesota on October 20, 1857, following a journey of 248 miles overland from Detroit. They built their first log cabin near present day Byers Lake on the east side of Great Lakeshore Creek—now part of Duluth—on land that would later be donated to the city by their brother-in-law Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney in 1861. In 1863 they founded what would become one of the most important grain towns in Minnesota when they acquired 640 acres (247 hectares) along Great Lakeshore Creek from two Swedish farmers for $2 per acre ($27 per hectare). This land had been rich with farmland since before European settlement but had been neglected because there were no roads or canals connecting it to other parts of the state. John Champlin became involved in local politics early on; he helped found Duluth Township in 1859 and was elected its first mayor in 1862 after defeating incumbent Jacob Van Arsdale Jr.. He also served as a delegate to various state conventions that decided rules governingMinnesota Territory under President Abraham Lincoln's new executive branch called "the cabinet." In 1865 Maria died suddenly at home while pregnant with their fourth child George W., leaving John Chamlin emptyhanded once again but this time without any children to take up his father's farm goals; he married Margaret Ladda Snively four years later on November 21st, 1867 – making him one step closer to becoming one of America's leading farmers like his father had been before him! A few weeks later General James Haggerty Chalpin arrived at Minneapolis–St Paul International Airport wearing a “Drum Major” uniform - having just come back from 4 months fighting against Native Americans at Buffalo Bayou near Houston TX –and quickly gained status withinMinnesota society due to his exploits During this time period many people began referring to[him]as General James Haggerty Chalpin(GJCHP).[1] One year after completing his training as an Officer Candidate School graduate at West Point Military Academy GJCHP was commissioned into service as Second Lieutenant Infantry Regiment #5C commanded by Colonel Augustus Buell on July 15th 1870 during American Expeditionary Forces operations against Militias loyal to Mexico’s president Antonio López de Santa Anna led by General Manuel Micheltorena occupying Veracruz Province Mexico City.[2][3][4][5] On January 8th 1871 orders arrived ordering GJCHP Headquarters moved from San Francisco CA [6][7][8]to Missouri Valley Depot located 3 miles west side MO River Road & 6 miles northwest corner Stroudsburg Rd/Old US Highway 82/ County Line Road junction 7 days prior[9]. That same day orders arrive unit must march 10 Miles northeast Stroudsburg Rd turn onto MO River road & proceed remaining 6 Miles through unoccupied post Forts Dodge City Mo [10], Chamlington MN location today.–Today GJCHP HQ still stands next door [11] In March 1871 Captain Arthur Kappenheimer relieved GJCHP Commanding Officer Colonel Augustus Buell who returned home sick after 12month deployment[12][13]. On April 1st 1870 JGCTHGW reached vicinity Dutch Fort where they skirmished w/ Mexican Militias going 2day rampage across entire fort area resulting in loss Of Men 5 Officers killed 14 wounded including Col[usseus Buell], Adjutant Lt Alfred Sibley 3 enlisted men Capt David Starr Frye Sgt Luther Youngblood Pvt Orson Bean private Geo Beebe Muster Bugler First Sergeant Abram Cesar
