Champlin is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located just southeast of Minneapolis on the Mississippi River. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Champlin is named after General James K. Polk and his family who founded it in 1854 as a trading post along the Minnesota River. The first white settlement in what is now Champlin was made by John Sauer and his brother-in-law, Emanuel Christiansen, in 1847. They erected a log cabin near present-day Champlin on the east bank of the river. In 1851, two brothers named Clauson bought land south of present-day Champlin for $10 cash and built a cabin there also. By 1860, most of what is now Chaminl had been developed as a small farming community with about 35 settlers living on 3 acres (1 hectare). In 1863, three men from St Paul Territory - George Snively, Moses Anderson and John Ludden - settled at what's now Park Rapids to start an oil well operation called "Ludden Bros." When production ceased due to natural gas discoveries nearby in 1870, all three men returned to their original settlements but continued to lease out land for oil production until their deaths in 1904 and 1913 respectively. A new railroad station was built approximately one mile west of current day Champlin in 1865 by Averill Hennepin County Road Commissioners Cornelius Kittrell & Isadore Godbold to serve as an important link between Minneapolis & Duluth Railroad lines at that time only partial open towards central Minnesota; passenger trains stopped here briefly during various construction projects throughout MN (this photo taken from above looking northeast): Railroad passengers arriving into Chaminl generally disembarked here before continuing onward onwards downriver until they reached either Greenwood or Richfield Junction where cars were then transferred onto larger passenger trains heading north or south both through Minneapolis & Duluth Railroad lines: Today this old railway station remains standingalbeit closedtered with some removed building materials still lying around its foundation today: After several years of development work which included among others setting up shop local miller Elijah McCoy woodworking machinery making logs and finished lumber directly from champlin oak trees began operations adjacent to current day Main Street; this business operated intermittently until 1915 when ownership passed hands along with other assets resulting mainly in real estate holdings including much acreage currently comprising Riverside Drive within today's downtown Champlin.: During World War II many residents worked for Denschowt Company providing munitions manufacturing plants both inside & outside MN; this company produced over 15 million rounds Of ammunition each week Eddy Denschowt Sr., son ran this company until his death 1975.: It should be noted that even though Ramsey County has long since moved away from any commercial or industrial activity taking place within its borders smaller communities like Chaminl have continued to thrive albeit often behind closed doors.: From its humble beginnings as a trading post along theMinnesota River nearly 150 years ago through more recent times characterized by growth & progress such as being host to many major businesses including First Security Bank (#3 on list below), Independence Paper Co.#5 (an early paper plant)& now Moose Jaw Brewing Company owner Donny Heineman's farmstead Inn which annually hosts events related thereto all while maintaining close ties/relationship(s) Continue reading...
Champlin was founded in 1881 by a group of farmers who named their community after General George Armstrong Custer. The town grew rapidly, and by 1907 it had a population of over 1,000 people. Champlin became an important center for commerce and industry, and its industries included lumbering, farming, manufacturing, and transportation. In the 1920s and 1930s, Champlin experienced significant growth as a result of the automobile industry. By the 1940s, however, Champlin's prosperity had declined due to changes in the economy and decline in population. In the 1970s and 1980s, however, Champlin regained some stability as a result of new development that aided in its rebirth as an important community. Today, Champlin is an important cultural center with a rich history that continues to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
