Champlin is a town in Saint Cloud County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. Champlin is part of the Duluth-Moline-West Side metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Champlin were farmers who arrived in 1851. By 1860, the town had developed as a residential community with two churches and 12 businesses. In 1873, Champlin became the site of the first state fair and has been held annually since then. In 1907, Champlin was renamed to honor General James A. Garfield which jumpstarted its growth as an agricultural town Courier Journal wrote: "Garland's visit last fall [to Champlin] helped spur development here... Agriculture now accounts for most of the village's income." According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,482 people, 527 households, and 373 families residing in the town. The population density was 20 people per square mile (8/km²). There were 648 housing units at an average density of 10 per square mile (4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White

Champlin is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Champlin was founded in 1854 by native Minnesotans Elijah and Lavinia Champlin. It became a city in 1904. Champlin is located on the southern edge of Ramsey County and is bordered by the towns of Arlington Heights to the north and Maplewood to the east. The first settlers in what would become Champlin were Elijah Champlin and his wife Lavinia who came overland from Michigan in 1854. They set up a cabin near present day North Park Avenue and Main Street which they named "Alki". They soon outgrew their initial piece of land and started farming what would become Champlin Township onacreage 2 miles wide and 1 mile deep. In 1861, they bought 120 acres (49 hectares) of land from Archibald Kellogg for $2 per acre which made them the largest landowners in Ramsey County at that time. The early years of this town were difficult because there was no water available for irrigation purposes so farmers had to use animals such as horses or dogs pulling wagons filled with soil, straw, rocks, etc., to get their crops into marketable condition; however, these days some residents still remember how fun it was to go out into those rural areas during those early days just to pluck some fresh corn off the cob! In 1887-88 two men by the name of Hulse and Storey built a log cabin on what is now Elm Street just east of downtown Champlin – this cabin served as both a home base for Hulse when he explored new 20-mile [30 km] routes leading westward through Ramsey County natural resources potential but also as an office where he could sell his goods door-to-door including fishingtackle, coal tar soap bars (yes!), ice cream cups (!), hatschettery tools (which we still use today!), nails ‘n’ hammers! This historically important building still stands today next door to D&C Hardware store across from breakfast café called "Hooter's". During prohibition era (1937-1946) it functioned as jail providing housing for local lawbreakers before being sold off following prohibition's repeal four years later! A post office operated at Alki from 1865 until 1903; during that time it was known as "Pine City" after nearby Pine Grove Church affiliated with Presbyterianism which stood onsite until 1930 when it burned down due to severe weather conditions caused by returning World War I veterans! A small community gradually grew up around Alki while other operations such as lumberyards closed throughout most of 1905 due largely to increased competition from larger towns along Interstate 94 southward withinRamsey County during this time period including Hibbing (#1), Mankato (#2), Battle Creek (#3), Anoka (#4), Appleton (#5), Rochester #6). However despite these setbacks businesses continued functioning sporadically throughout much OF 1906 due primarily to family ran mills not having access either directly or indirectly via expressway ramps connecting Twin Cities with smaller communities downstream like Crystal Lake/Everett then Galesburg/West Stroudsburg then Chicago Heights/ Plainfield continuing until about 1915 when all major roads entering & exiting town been completed thru Ferry Building creating single point industrial zone unloading cargo onto Riverboat terminals making life much easier for entrepreneurs like George Wetherbee who operated Wetherbee Boat Company starting circa 1925 shipping produce & landed products back & forth between Ferry Building & MI&WI borders aided by launches provided courtesy by MN State Departmentof Natural Resources!! And finally arriving usurious interestsaid goodbye forever (& our county seat renamed Chaminade) taking with them many well respected locally born gentlemen civic leaders responsible for developing our thriving agricultural center… Today you can find remnants of pioneer culture evident most visibly in artifacts found scattered throughout charming old fashioned residencesmany dating back more than 100 years!!! Including one particular house located northeast corner Elm & Main Streets once occupied by Reverend John Fenton whose rare collection includes several hundred artifacts amassed over several generations!). Champlin was founded in 1854 by John Champlin and his brother. The Champlins were early settlers in the area, moving from Ohio in the 1840s. They started a small farm on the banks of the Mississippi River. In 1851, they bought land to the east of Minneapolis and began building a home there. The first house was built on what is now First Avenue South and Nicollet Mall. By 1865, they had erected another home on Main Street between Nicollet Mall and University Avenue. On July 14, 1892, their final home was completed at 6th Avenue North and Snelling Road. The Champlin family died in 1902, leaving their estate to be divided among their children.
