That same year saw some significant changes for the community as well; Norwegian immigrants started settling in the area and began opening businesses such as groceries and lumberyards along Second Street which led to increased traffic congestion on main thoroughfares throughout the township. On October 5th of that year, three young men- Hiram Pillsbury (aged 16), Charles Sprague (aged 15)and Orin Judd (aged 11) walked into town from rural Sandusky County seeking work opportunities within reason according to one source because there were no other places for them to go when their families returned home from harvest time following five years of continuous warfare with Mexico City- Brazil). Upon arrival they were met by local citizens who provided hospitality for several days before directing them towards different business ventures which suited their skills & interests: Andrew Ladd opened a grocery store on Main Street while Hiram worked as a machinist at Wm Hennepin & Sons livery stable; Orin became a tailor working out of Artemus Ward's storeroom; Charles worked long hours at his father's farmstead doing everything from planting crops to harvesting hay while still attending school until he graduated high school; James Fenton opened his own general store on Third Avenue opposite Post Road shortly thereafter becoming one of the most successful merchants in the community (). In 1888 Samuel French bought 6 acres adjacent to current day First Avenue & Second Streets including what are today frame buildings known as "French Villa", "Hutchinson House" & "Upper French Villa". For more than 100 years this property has been used primarily as an agricultural training ground for students attending college or university nearby including those currently enrolled at Morris Agriculture School aka Chaminade University campus located adjacent property . In 1895 Rapid Fire Insurance Company organized insurance services within town limits (& surrounding areas) initially providing coverage for commercial vessels docked offshore although rates were not very favorable given then current economic conditions (). As things turned out however company operated boats did provide critical coverage during both world wars resulting in much local revenue (). In 1951 Danvers Mills Inc., predecessor company of Minneapolis based Danvers Foods Corporation merged with Rapid Fire Insurance Company becomingDanvers Mills Incorporated(). In 1957 merger resulted in consolidation with Duluthbased Northern Pacific Railway Company resulting in establishment Of Stroudsburg Railroad Station serving entire village.) Champlin was founded in 1871 by John Champlin, a self-taught farmer. The first store opened in 1872. The town grew rapidly, and by 1886 it had a population of 1,500. By the early 20th century, Champlin had become one of the most important agricultural towns in Minnesota. It was home to major farmers' markets, and its industries included clothing factories, lumber yards, and food production. In 1922, Champlin became an incorporated city.
