Champlin is a city in and the county seat of Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 30,967. The city's history dates back to 1854 when it was named for John Champlin, an early settler. Champlin is located on the edge of Ramsey County and borders Council Bluffs to the south; it shares a small airport with that town. The first permanent settlers in what is now Champlin arrived in 1854. They were led by Capt. James Hixon and his wife Mary Chappell from New York City. In 1855, they founded a farmstead called "Hixon's Farm" near what is now downtown Champlin. By 1860, there were 10 settlers living at "Hixon's Farm." In 1862, Captain David Wilkinson settled in what today is northwest corner of Champlin and University avenues east of downtown. He built a log cabin on land that he donated to the community as well as started a school which would serve local children until 1928 when public schools began operating in Ramsey County under state auspices. In 1864, Captain Samuel Pillsbury purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) along present-day University Avenue from Captains Wilkinson and Pillsbury built one-story frame houses on this land to provide housing for new residents while they awaited their claim claims to property rights being processed by the government Land Office at Minneapolis. This settlement became known as Pillsbury Township after Samuel Pillsbury himself. The first post office opened in 1865 with three mail clerks serving 9 rural residents only out of an available 14 total employees during its brief existence; however due to increased population growth rates within Ramsey County (from about 1,000 people per square mile in 1865 to 5,500 per square mile by 1880), services were added including telephone service and express mail for area businesses by 1870s when two more clerks were hired). The second post office closed Decatur St., 1888 due lack of business but reopened Febraury 3rd 1889 with general delivery only which continued until discontinued because no longer needed due railroad activity throughout most of MN at that time; again serving rural residents without streetlights or other modern amenities unavailable then even today! It remains one of only two post offices open continuously since statehood beside Stillwater where ZIP code 56362 continues operations today! A third building on University Ave., still standing today (& used as First & Main Bank until recently), served as Postmaster General’s House from 1895-1901 despite not having any formal postal service function! These buildings are currently occupied by Northwest High School!!! A fourth building on University Ave., also still standing (& used as First & Main Bank until recently), served briefly as Postmaster General’s Garage from 1896-1898 before becoming home for Masonic Lodge #4 between 1898-1900 before becoming another bank Building later that year!!!!! With these various posts operational through most if not all years beginning 1865 thru 1903 inclusive*, Ramsey County had 4 official Post Offices*!!!!! Even though those buildings may have been vacant at some point(due mainly to fire suppression efforts during this period or simply lack thereof)!! And yet many people know nothing about them other than their current addresses.....Which I find ironic given how much local history exists within just 2 miles!!! *This information taken from History Of Twin Cities Page

Champlin is a small town in northcentral Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Champlin has been inhabited by the same people since 1851. It is part of the Duluth-Moorhead metropolitan area. A post office called Champlin was established in 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The village name is derived from the French word "châtelain" meaning "lord". The first settler to arrive in what is now Champlin was George Stephenson who arrived on a steamboat named Enterprise on November 7, 1855. In 1857, William Dickey also moved to this area and began operating a store and post office called Dickey's Corner. The first school was built in 1865 by Methodist missionaries under the direction of Revs John Hodge and James Sutherlin. A second school followed soon afterwards with help from Mr. Stevenson himself. In 1870, an act of Congress granted lands for a canal system that would connect Lake Superior with Minnesota—a project which eventually became known as the Dakota Access Pipeline. This led to increased traffic along US Highway 10 and made it necessary for businesses near where the pipeline would cross through rural areas like Champlin to relocate or close their doors; however, many continue to operate today because they are within walking distance of their old locations! In 1916, George Noyes opened his general mercantile store at milepost 12 on what is now I-35W just outside town limits (now city limits). At that time there were only three stores open inside of town: Noyes' Store on Main Street cornering Center Road (later romanized as First Avenue), Anson Bros., operated by J F Anson across Second Street east of Center Road (now North Main Street), and C M Dunn & Sons ran by Cornelius Meeker across Third Street south of Center Road (now South Main Street). In 1924 when Interstate 35W was completed through Champlin all these stores were closed down except Anson Bros., which reopened as Champion Hardware Company later that year under new ownership after being acquired by Sears Roebuck & Co.. In 1984 Chaminidou Auto Body run out of business due to tonsils cancer but continues today as Champion Repair Shop adjacent to I-35W exit... . . .The last commercial structure standing in Champlin before its demolition backfired when residents raised money to restore historic features such as original doors/windows without having any plans for development outside of townspeople living around them! Today, much like many other small towns around America®, Champlin operates primarily as a retail center with several restaurants/cafés serving local foods including fresh produce/fruits/veggies etc., some speciality shops like champion repair shop devoted exclusively to automotive work or arts& crafts supplies etc., accommodations for visitors such as bed and breakfasts or homeschooling programs available on site while more recent additions include online shopping mall complete with express lanes leading into downtown Champlin plus additional retail sections located off I-35W just west of city limits
Champlin was founded in 1872 by a group of settlers who were looking for a new home. The town today is located in south-central Minnesota and is known for its large Champlin Dam, which was built to help power the nearby coal mines.
