The Burnsville Telescope was first built in 1922 and is one of the oldest scopes in operation. It is still in use today and can be seen at the Minnesota Historical Society in Burnsville. The telescope was donated to the society by Dr. Julius Kriegel and his wife, Bertha Kriegel, who also founded the museum. The Kriegels were Visitors from Germany who toured America during World War I and brought back some of the most interesting telescopes and artifacts. Burnsville is a city in the Minnesota Territory, United States. The population was 15,539 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Minneapolis County and one of its five cities. Burnsville was founded on November 3, 1842 by James A. Burns as a post office called "Hennepin". The name change to "Burnsville" on February 26, 1852 when the first courthouse was built there. The post office closed on December 31, 1907. In 1861, William Hennepin organized what became the Town of Burnsville (later Minneapolis). On January 1, 1871, it became an incorporated town with a population of 20 residents under the leadership of Mayor Fenton Cuppy. In 1902–1903, fire destroyed most of downtown; however, new business and housing sprang up quickly around what remained of downtown. In 1916 Prior Ewing donated land east of I-35 for Burnsville's first high school which would become Newcastle High School today. During World War II many local businesses took part in supplying war resources including Boeing Company and other companies that made airplanes and missiles; throughout 1945-1946 Burnesville had a total production output of $4 million from 41 companies! The present day skyline of Burnett Street NE and Interstate 35W were developed during this time as Burnside Place NW & I-35WGateway Plaza went up in 1957 as well as our current Target store across from TCF Bank

Burnsville is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 9,914 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dakota County and the second largest city in the state after Minneapolis. The name "Burnsville" comes from an early settler, James Burnham. Burnsville was founded on Cache Creek in 1856 by Captain John Nolen and his party of pioneers. The first post office in Burnsville was established in 1858. In 1863, General Ulysses S. Grant visited Burnsville and made his famous speech on Lake Superior before troops under General George Meek arrived to take over operations at Fort Snelling that year. In 1861, when Minnesota became a United States territory following the Civil War, it included not only Dakota County but also portions of what are now Payne and Brown counties as well as southernMinnesota's eastern border with Iowa. As a result of this annexation, Burnsville became one of several cities within newly created Dakota County which were severed from their respective townships adjacent to Iowa until they were reincorporated into Dakota County following the end of World War II as a result of local government reorganization under Kansas City Reorganization Plan No. 3 (KCRP-3). The first school in town was built in 1857 by Captain John Nolen for students who could not afford to attend school outside the community on Cache Creek where he owned land and ran a ferry service across the stream between town and creek. In 1862 when General Ulysses S. Grant visited town during his army campaign against Confederate forces near Stillwater he stopped at itschool to deliver remarks before troops under General George Meek arrived to take over operations at Fort Snelling that year; this event is celebrated each September as National History Month in America (and annually throughout most of Canada). Dakota Rapids Dam opened up water supplies for Burnesville through various channels includingCache Creek; however during much of this time there was little or no development along those shores due to low economic prospects for people living near water resources during these difficult times caused by war fever economies all across North America chaos ensued starting with lumber prices crashing hardest around this time period leading entrepreneurs such as James Baggerman started developing some aspects along these shorelines but other than That small amount we have today there isn't very much history associated with that area beyond what we can learn from oral histories shared by many current residents including myself
Burnsville was founded in 1851 as a small farming village on the banks of the river Rouge. The settlement grew quickly, and by 1875 it had become a town. The town was renamed Burnsville in 1896 after Daniel M. Burns, an early settler.
