The first people to live in Burnsville were natives of Canada who came overland from the Canadá-British Isles in 1827. They named their new community after James K. Polk, then president of the United States, who had recently come to America on a tour. The first post office was established in 1829 and it was called "Polkville". In 1853, the name was changed to "Burntisville" after General John A. Burns, commander of Ulysses S. Grant's Division during the Mexican–American War During World War II, many American military personnel living in Europe were sent back home on naval vessels called Operation Neptune's Spear (1944). Many soldiers and sailors from Burnsville enlisted in the war effort and some even built their own homes while they were stationed here; one such individual is credited with helping to start Burnside Cereal Company which still exists today as a major local employer In 1951, burnout syndrome became an official medical condition for which there wasn't yet an adequate cure or treatment available In 1957, Pioneer Elementary School opened its doors and has been serving students ever since as one of Burnside's primary institutions

Burnsville, Minnesota is a small town in the central part of the state of Minnesota. It was founded in 1872 by Captain John Burns and his family. The town has been around since then, and it is now a small city with over 100 residents. Before Burnsville became a town, it was located on the east side of the Mississippi River. In 1872, Captain John Burns purchased land from the government for $1,000. He built a cabin there and started to build what would become Burnsville into a small community. The first settlers were John and Catharine Burnett who arrived in 1872. They built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1875, another batch of pioneers arrived in Burnsville from Illinois: Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Aspinwall (the Aspinwalls). They had come downriver to start an agricultural business but they found that the area wasn’t ready for farming yet so they decided to move back upriver instead. They settled on land that today is northeast of downtown Burnesville. The first school in Burnsville was established in 1876 when Gertrude Henningsen teaching middle school students at her home raised money to purchase supplies needed for her class’s new building which she donated to the school board meeting that year! This building still stands today as part of Dickinson Middle School! In 1880, one Mrs Forbes opened her own grocery store next door to Pembroke School District No 7 which continues to be run by Mrs Forbes descendants today! In 1886 Dr Otto Sutherlin came across some potatoes growing on his property and started harvesting them himself; he named his farm “Sutherlin” after this event! Between 1888-1893 four more schools were established: East High School (now Dickinson High School), West High School (now Morningside Heights HS), South Park Elementary (now Parkview Elementary) and North Park Elementary (now Joe Tasker K-8th grade). During these years there were also several businesses opened such as Dr Otto Sutherlin’s Pharmacy, Hattie Borgstrom’s bakery & feed store and Harry Anderson’s barbershop/shampoo salon… everyone had their own little piece of history here! By 1920 all but two schools had closed due to lack of pupils or finances so Mr Fenton set about creating what would be known as “The Big Four Schools – high school math classes only – grades 9-12″ according to History Alive website . With this new venture Mr Fenton purchased 3 acres west of Main Street where he erected an old frame courthouse/ jail which served as our current City Hall until it burned down in 1984 ! It should be noted that even though most things have changed since those days back when we were just kids playing outside our homes I can still remember my Grandfather taking me out fishing at Whitefish Lake right before supper inside his big black Coleman Trailer while my Mom cooked us dinner inside because we didn’t have no TV then !! hahaha !! Anyway lets move along…….. The post office was established at Burnesville in 1893 by Capt John Burnett with mail being delivered twice per week!! You might think today that postage stamps are something you get when you buy something online BUT NO WAY BACK THEN!!!!!!!!! Many people throughout history have given blood sometimes providing their lifeblood called “vegetables or fruits & vegetables etcetera for distribution free if someone wanted them please contact me I could tell you more about it LOL
