On July 10th, 1904 he restocked his troops with supplies at the town's depot after being stopped by Ulysses S Grant outside of Duluth while traveling through Minnesota en route to Battle Creek Lake where he would lead his army against General William Todman

The population of Burnsville increased rapidly during the early years of its existence, and by 1905 it had reached 100,000 people. During World War I, Burnsville served as a major staging ground for troops moving from Minnesota to England. After the war, the community continued to grow rapidly, and by 1930 it had reached 250,000 people. However, during the Great Depression many jobs were lost in Burnsville due to lack of interest in the town from employers. In 1939, the city limits were expanded to include parts of Maplewood and Eden Prairie. In 1976, Burnesville became a suburb of Minneapolis.
