Graves to commemorate the opening of her new rifle range. The range was located at what is now Maplewood Elementary School and it operated for four years. On October 12, 1889, Mr. J.D. McCulloch organized a second target shoot at his home in Burnsville that featured ten guns from different manufacturers including Winchester and Colt handguns. This event became known as the “Great American Gun Show” because it attracted representatives from many businesses in town and across the United States to attend. The show also served as an opportunity for people to come together and discuss firearms provisions and problems that they were experiencing on a local level. In 1895, club members of the Masonic Lodge #2 met at Mrs.(?) Ladds Hardee’s house to organize a third target shoot using shotguns only- this time there were twenty-four guns available! The next year saw another great success when Mr.(?) Fenton took charge of organizing the Fourth Great American Gun Show which took place on July 4th and 5th in Minneapolis! At this event he presented two prizes – one for First Place with a Winchester repeating rifle (the first prize) and another for Second Place with an old model revolver! Assembling all these participants must have been quite an undertaking but it was definitely worth it because attendance topped 500 people! These events served as opportunities for people in town to get together and shoot some targets while making new friends too! Even today gatherings like these are important social events that bring people together around the fireplace or under the stars!

In 1892, the railroad reached this site and began building tracks through the area; it was not until 1916 that Burnsville became a incorporated community with its own government. At that time, it had only 2 buildings: a Methodist Church and a schoolhouse. The post office opened in 1915; by 1922, there were 16 businesses in town – many of which were grocery stores and general stores catering to local farmers and ranchers. By 1930 there were 151 businesses in town; by 1940 there were 461 businesses! During World War II much of the manufacturing activity took place in neighboring Rochester; however, some major components of aircraft manufacture took place in Burnsville including Convair F4U Corsair fighters built at nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base during 1944-1945 (and also being produced by EMD Corporation at their Kearny Mesa facility until 1958). In 1945 local physician Dr George Coyle developed doxycycline as an antibiotic to be used against malaria mosquitoes; he sold his product to Merck & Co., Inc., then merged with Novartis AG following World War II ending hostilities between America's two most powerful economic empires!
