In Burnsville, Minnesota, the first firearms were invented in 1835. The first pistol was designed by John M. Brown and built by Samuel Colt in 1836. The handguns became popular among farmers and began to be used in wars between the United States and Great Britain. In 1847, the U.S. Congress passed a bill that made it illegal to possess any firearm without a license from the government. This law led to the beginning of the Wild West era in America. During World War II, Burnsville residents developed an interest in arms production due to their proximity to Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport (MSP). MSP was home to many American companies that manufactured military hardware such as Boeing, General Electric, and McDonnell Douglas. These companies needed reliable suppliers for their products and they turned to Burnsville for helpfinancing their weapons programs. The Gun Owners Protection League (GOPL) was founded in 1951 in response to this need. GOPL is one of the oldest gun control organizations in America and has been fighting for stricter gun laws ever since! Today, GOPL operates over 1,000 local chapters across America with more than 650 dues-paying members! In 1965, Minnesota passed its own Firearms Act which banned all handguns except those possessed with a license from state or federal authorities. This law led to increased violence within our community due to rivalry between gangs vying for control of major streets and businesses throughout Minneapolis-St Paul metropolitan area; however, this period of violence ended after a few years when police began enforcing licensing requirements again instead of just bans

Burnsville is a city in Rice County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,723 at the 2010 census. The Burnsville Historic District encompasses part of the city. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The first Europeans to visit what is now Burnsville were French traders and fur trappers in the 17th century. They brought with them some plants and animals that they named "Bois de la Prairie" after their home province, Canada. In 1818, John Auld, a Scottish immigrant who had settled near present-day Minneapolis, founded an agricultural trading post called "Auld's Fort" about two miles (3 km) northeast of Burnsville on the banks of the Mississippi River. This became known as Auld's Landing because it was from here that American settlers first landed in what is today Rice County. In 1824, James Guthrie built a cabin near present-day downtown Burnsville and started to grow wheat there. By 1830, Guthrie had developed a successful wheat farming operation which he continued until his death in 1862. His son John Guthrie ran the business until its closure in 1924; afterwards it passed through several families before being purchased by four local businessmen who operated it as a grocery store from 1951 to 1984. The store reopened as an independently owned gas station/convenience store on Main Street east of town on December 3, 1984
