The village formed on this tract about 1851 when settlers arrived from Kentucky and Tennessee to homestead around present-day Burnsville Lake. pioneer James Mapes named his farmstead "Moses," after Moses Benton who platted what became Minneapolis adjacent to Mapes' land west of Will Rogers Boulevard and north of Interstate 94 at Shields Road/Upper Bloomington Road crossed by Canute's Fork brook which ran through central burnside before terminating at Ferry Road near Maplewood Cemetery northwestward into Hennepin County beyond Stroudsburg Township westward across Cedar Rapids Prairie into Dakota Territory under President Abraham Lincoln until 1863 when all public lands were taken over by the Ulysses S Grant Administration as partSigned by Secretary Stanton at Fort Snelling Treaty Site southwest corner Elk River between Yesterdays Ford road crossing Dakota Heights reservation Indian Reserve east side 6th street running southwesterly US highway 84 then northwest along riverbanks to current site

Burnsville is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,674 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Burnsville has been inhabited by Native Americans for more than two centuries and was established as a village in 1851. The town was named after George Washington Burnes, an early settler. The first store in Burnsville opened on December 1, 1851, and the first post office opened on January 10, 1852. In 1865, the post office was moved to what is now Maplewood and the name of the town changed to Burnsville to avoid confusion with Maplewood Township which had been established earlier that year. The first school in Burnsville was built in 1857 and it operated until 1911 when it closed due to financial problems. The current school building was built in 1915 and it also serves as the Administration Building for Ramsey County government since 1978. In 1898, a lumberyard and sawmill were built east of town near what is now State Highway 9N (now Interstate 35W). This mill provided employment for many people in Burnettvillle until it closed down around 1940 because of World War II military spending cuts. Many homes were destroyed during this time as well; however one house still stands today within sight of the Millsaps Elementary School campus across from I-35W/9N just south of Burnsville High School football field (the original site where Marshalltown High School now stands). Today there are few if any businesses left operating withinBurnsville although some small businesses may exist along I-35W/9N adjacent to BurnsVILLE HS football stadium just south of Millsaps Elementary School Campus

The city is home to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and Burnsville Regional Airport. The first Europeans to visit what is now Burnsville were French traders in 1759. The village named after Captain John Burnett was platted in 1857. A post office called Burnett was established in 1858, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1870, a group of Norwegian settlers that included Nilsen moved from Mankato to Burnsville. They started a gristmill there and soon began producing flour for local consumers. In 1876, they erected a sawmill on the riverbank between downtown Burnsville and their farmstead onorthy of Minneapolis-St Paul Railroad stationAxtell Road). This mill continued production until 1922 when it burned down due to an overloading error by its operators. The townspeople built their own courthouse (1890) and jail (1910). In 1912, the U.S. Government constructed the first miles of concrete road through Ramsey County as part of construction of Interstate 80 east from Saint Paul intoMinnesota The new highway helped stimulate economic development in Burnesville which by 1928 had become one of the largest cities within Ramsey County with a population over 100,000 people (). On January 1, 1930, following passage by Congress of Public Law 3272 which authorized stateshood for Minnesota as well as other changes withinthe United States during Franklin D Roosevelt's presidency (),burnsVILLE became a city under state law (). It retained its autonomy as an independent municipality until 1949 when it merger with neighboring White Earth Township . burnside also became co-terminus for Ramsey County's term limits
