Brooklyn Park is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Brooklyn Park is located on the border of Washington and Dakota counties. The first settler in what would become Brooklyn Park was Levi Hunt who built a cabin in 1858 on a small farm east of present day Brooklyn Park along Farm Road 6A (now US-218). He may have been the first European to permanently reside in what would become Ramsey County. In 1876, David Marshall settled here and platted his land into blocks which became the towns ofBrooklyn Park, Lauderdale, Hennepin Rapids, Maplewood and Rochester before it amalgamated with St Peters to form Brooklyn Township on January 1, 1907. Brooklyn Park was named for proprietary owner Peter Brooker who had purchased portions of what are now Dakota and Washington counties from Sioux Chief Red Cloud four years earlier. Today some residents still refer to themselves as "Brooklyn Porters" because their ancestors came from that area during this time period. In 1968 when the city of Minneapolis annexed parts of north Minneapolis making it more densely populated than ever before real estate prices began skyrocketing around Brooklyn Park; many farmers decided to move out into larger farming communities such as White Bear Lake or Maplewood after seeing how much money they could make selling their land within Minneapolis limits without having to worry about taxes and insurance obligations that surrounded them in rural areas like Buffalo Creek or Clearwater Beach

It was established in 1881 as a result of the merger of two smaller towns, Brooklyn and Park Rapids. The population was 551 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Brooklyn Park was Jacob Smedley, who arrived in 1858 from Denmark. He built a log cabin on what is now Cedar Street in what is now Brooklyn Park. In 1870, he married Hannah Carlson and they had three children: Abraham (1871-1947), Anna (1873-1965), and John (1875-1954). In 1881, when the two smaller towns were merged to form Brooklyn Park, Jacobs family descendants still lived there and continued to farm land around their home until 1945. Brooklyn Park became a community because its residents worked together to build schools and churches, as well as other infrastructure such as roads and sewers. The community also benefited from cheap natural gas that came available through pipeline during the early 20th century. During World War II, many people from Brooklyn Park served in the military; some even went on to become generals or admirals! One notable resident was Rear Admiral Harry Wohlstetter Jr., who commanded Task Force 58 which surrendered Japan's Tokyo Bay Naval Base on September 2 1945 after seven months of fighting. Many people fromBrooklyn Park also took part in America's Great Migrationproject which brought millions of people overland to America during the mid-20th century
