Brooklyn Center is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, and it is the county seat of Hennepin County. The population was 24,814 at the 2010 census. On February 14, 1869 (), Minneapolis city charter was ratified with amendments making it an incorporated city with its own government separate from that of Hennepin County (). On January 1st 1870 (), streets were laid out within what would become Downtown BrooklynCenter with one main thoroughfare running through it (2nd Avenue North), followed soon afterwards by blocks down 2nd Avenue South (now 3rd Avenue South) which became known as "The Crescent". In 1872(), when railroads began flowing through Minnesota they linked up with other states leading to new opportunities for businesses such as flour mills and meatpacking plants within Downtown BrooklynCenter. In 1888 (), another street grid was put into place within DowntownBrooklynCenter which divided it into wards (north/south/east/west) while also creating commercial districts along Second Ave., Third Ave., Fourth Ave., Fifth Ave., Sixth Ave., Seventh Ave./Winston Rd./Moses Rd./ Farwell Ln./Scott Dr.). Today these districts are still discernible although some have been replaced by new buildings over time including: MidtownWest Business District ();South Side business district ();Downtown East business district ();Downtown West business district ();and finally Midtown East business district().
