Brainerd, Minnesota is a small town in the US state of Minnesota. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1854 by Norwegian immigrants who arrived on the "Canandaigua," a sailing ship that made its maiden voyage from Copenhagen to Seattle on July 15, 1854. The first settlers were Rasmus Nielsen and his wife Anne Marie Eriksen, both men from Trondheim, Norway. From their initial 43 acres (16 ha) they added an acre (0.30 km²) each until they had 160 acres (68 ha). In 1865 the town became an incorporated village with a government of its own with three trustees: one for street cleaning and drainage; one for education; and one for fire protection. In 1888 it became a city with its own mayor and councilors as well as street cleaning and drainage services provided by five private companies–the Fishburne Company, Pabst Brewing Company, Nicollet Hotels & Resorts Ltd., Aitkin Manufacturing Company and Wirth Paperie Company–all of which remain in operation today as municipally owned businesses. As Brainerd grew larger it began to attract entrepreneurs who started small businesses such as grocery stores, millinery shops, banks and other commercial enterprises that still operate in the community today. Some notable landmarks in Brainerd include The George Washington Hotel (now known as The Marriott), Brainerd Masonic Lodge No 1A (later called First Presbyterian Church), Community Hall/Shops Inc., Stroudsburg Park golf course/residence complex/conference center/hospitality complex known locally as "The Star" or simply "The Town Hall", Chappell's Department Store which closed down in 1999 but remains preserved as a museum open to the public, four churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1865), Second Episcopal Church 1870-1974 [now known as Christ Lutheran Cathedral], United Methodist church 1925-2006 [closed 2006], Evangelical Lutheran church 1910-2009 [closed 2009] among many others buildings dating back to before 1850 or even 1800 when much of present day Brainerd was first settled by Norwegian immigrants during what is now referred to as “the land rush” period following America's admission into Confederation – August 17th 1784

Brainerd is a small town in rural Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is located in Hennepin County. The first European to explore and settle the area around Brainerd was John Stevens in 1821. He established a trading post on the west side of the river where he built a log cabin and named it Fort Stevens. From this post, Stevens explored and charted much of what is nowMinnesota. In 1824, Danish Eriksen organized two hundred men for an expedition upriver to find new land for Denmark on what is now Nebraska but which then was part of Dakota Territory. They reached present-day Brainerd on July 24, 1824, and founded a settlement there that became known as Eriksen's Landing or "Erickson's Ferry." In 1827, another group of Danish immigrants set out from Minneapolis with 160 men to establish a new town called Nokia (later renamed Minneapolis). When they arrived at noon on July 25th they found that their route had been changed by Ulysses S. Grant who had just been appointed US Consul at Stavanger on behalf of President James K Polk in recognition of his role in helping grant passage to American settlers through Mexico City over the objections of Spanish Ambassador Josefina de la Concepcion y Ortega y Gasset y Ruiz de la Vega. The original route from Saint Paul via Duluth went downriver past present-day Winona before turning east towards what is now Rochester; thence by way of La Crosse and Hastings to downtown Minneapolis; finally reaching Nokia about 4 pm that afternoon without encountering any obstacles. One result of Grants visit was that local merchants began selling goods bought along the way from Mexican traders who were not allowed to cross into America without being escorted by Federal agents! This paved the way for future development such as Interstate 35W which bisects Brainerd today! The first store opened up in Nokia on December 12th, 1829 by Iowa merchant George Akeley & Co.. The town prospered until1850 when gold discoveries began making valuable minerals available near Hibbing and Mankato which led some residents southward towards those towns while others moved into sections situated near Lake Superior because farming there became more profitable than mining operations farther north
Brainerd is a city in and the county seat of Brainerd County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 9,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The name "Brainerd" is derived from Dakota Sioux word meaning "place where buffalo roam." The first settler in what would become Brainerd was John Armstrong in 1871. He had come to this area from Illinois via Buffalo Prairie on the Mississippi River. Armstrong's farmstead became known as Armstrong's Landing due to his prominence in early community development. By 1881, there were six families living in Armstrong's Landing including two families of Scandinavian descent who named their settlement after themselves: Arneson and Olson (later Arneson). Another early settler was David Atwater who arrived here around 1880 with his family and began homesteading near present day Marshall Field Mallards Nest Park. In 1898, a post office called "Brantford" was established at the junction of County Road A and State Highway 30 (now US-36) within present day Brainerd Township; it operated until 1959. In 1902, a branch line of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Railroad was built through what is now Brainerd Township; this line eventually became part of the Minnesota Central Railway system which served as an important transportation artery throughout much of Minnesota during its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1912, when all but one township in Ramsey County were organized into municipalities under state law, Brainerd Township metamorphosed from rural to urban status under Mayor Harry Fenton with support from then Governor Harold Stassen; by 1915 it had a population of 515 residents and functioned as both municipal seat and business center for nearby rural areas that had been annexed into town during that decade-plus growth process. As Minneapolis grew larger outside its downtown core starting in the 1940s inevitably more people relocated to central or inner-ring suburbs such as Hennepin County while others moved away altogether over time due to various economic reasons such as rising property values or changing industrial needs elsewhere within metro Minnesotan employment boundaries; however most residents still live within easy commuting distance today thanks largely to expanding highway travel times across centralMinnesota since Interstate 35E bypassed town limits almost entirely southward some 25 years ago while also creating new bedroom communities located east/northeastward several miles along I-35W just west of Hector’s Mill exit off I-5D some 25 miles northeast of downtown Minneapolis proper including several recent subdivisions adjoining Target Center mall providing yet another suburban amenity despite claims by some boosters that “the villages are about to be taken over” by big box retailers although any purported annexation would likely only occur if elected officials deemed said developments were economically attractive enough thereby circumventing expensive public planning requirements usually associated with larger redevelopment projects like those undertaken at Target Center notwithstanding efforts initiated by city officials recently(i)to revive talk thereofalbeit unsuccessfully [ii]despite objections by currentTarget Center manager Rick Smith [iii]). In 1978 referendum passage meant incorporation into City &County government not only for historical reasons but also because citizens desired more centralized services available closer to home should their local governments experience budget shortfalls resultant from increased suburban growth particularly given their continuing linkages with neighboring cities especially when convenient expressways have been constructed linking them together increasingly well beyond traditional city limits even Though technically incorporated into City &County government now following reorganized elections held less than two years prior City Councilmember Don Fawcett has spearheaded efforts[iv]to allow annexation currently pending before 3rd District Court having jurisdiction over entire unincorporated portion OF CITY LIMITS covering parts OF 2 other adjacent Cities viz., Sauk Rapids & Rushford plus portions Of Nicolletown Heights & White Bear Lake making total annexation countable subject TO final approval by full 3rd District Court which has already ruled against attempted annexation without notification or hearings].
