In 1893, Larson purchased the land that would become the modern-day Brainerd Town Hall and began publishing The Gun Mags there. By 1907, the magazine had become a quarterly publication with a circulation of 100+, and by 1912 it had reached a circulation of 30000+. In 1925, Larson sold his ownership interest in The Gun Mags to Wm. H. Dickey who continued to publish it until 2003.

Many immigrants came to Minnesota during this time - Irishmen, Germans, Swedes, Italians, Poles – all looking for a better life than they had back home. During World War II many Brainerdians served in the military; some even went on unto become generals or admirals! The post-war boom brought more newcomers; many settling areas around town developed into dense concentrations: Little America sits on land that once belonged to Prairie du Chien; while West Side Park straddles both sides of Depot Street between First Avenue South and Western Avenue North.) The growth of Brainerd has been paralleled by its decline since 2000 when median household income fell 2%. However recent job growth has reversed that trend with median household incomes increasing 1% from 2016-2018 according to US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports
