Today, Brainerd remains a smalltown with tightknit community values that contribute to its strong sense of community spirit. Its cultural attractions include both amateur theatrical productions (such as "The Great Lakes Playhouse") and art galleries; two main shopping malls; multiple golf courses; several parks including Willow Park Preserve; several restaurants including Dickey's BBQ & Wings restaurant chain; plus many small businesses providing services essential for everyday life such as grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, lawn care services etc.
