Gun targets have been a part of Bloomington, Minnesota's history for over 100 years. The first target shoot in the city was on Valentine's Day in 1884. At that time, target shooting was an activity for men only and there were not many public venues where people could go to shoot guns. In 1906, the Minneapolis Arms and Ammunition Co., which was then known as the Minneapolis Rifle & Pistol Association, started selling targets at their store on 5th Avenue South. Target shooters from all over come to this location to participate in these shoots. From here on out, target shoots became common occurrences throughout the city and eventually other parts of Minnesota. Today, target shooting is a popular pastime enjoyed by both men and women in Bloomington and around the country.
