Austin, Minnesota is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 7,879 at the 2010 census and has grown rapidly in recent decades, reaching 10,926 by 2016. Austin is located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and is part of the Twin Cities–Saint Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city's economy relies heavily on transportation and logistics, with a concentration of businesses within a two-hour drive of downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul; as well as nearby companies in Illinois and Missouri. However, many Austin residents also work outside of the city limits due to its strong educational opportunities and access to cultural attractions throughout North America. The first people to live in what is now Austin were German immigrants who arrived around 1855. They built cabins along the banks of the Whitewater River where they employed local Native Americans for labor during summer months when there was no agricultural production available elsewhere in the area. By 1870, about 60% of all land near present-day Austin had been taken up by agriculture; however, because railroads came through that region soon after (especially from Chicago), some entrepreneurs decided to put their money into business enterprises such as cattle feedlots and boatsbuilding yards instead of farming. In 1875 entrepreneur John Atherton founded what would become Atherton Electric Light Company – one of very few electric light companies established outside northeast Ohio before American Civil War (1861-1865). At that time it was one of just two Safeway supermarkets open east of Interstate 94! Although commodity prices increased during World War II (1939-1945) relative to peacetime levels due largely to rationing put into effect by Franklin D Roosevelt following Pearl Harbor (December 7th 1941), overall sales at Safeway continued steady until 1958 when groceries began being pulled out altogether from shelves across most stores including those east off I-94! grocer Fred Wertheim agreed not only sell frozen food but also general merchandise like bicycles

Austin, Minnesota is a small town located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and is part of the Dakota Valley region. The population was 7,564 at the 2010 census. Austin has been inhabited by humans for over 6,000 years and has a rich history that reflects its location on the Mississippi River in central Minnesota. The first European to visit Austin was French trader Pierre Le Moyne in 1769. He called it "Avenant". The name may have come from an Indian word meaning "place where two rivers meet." In 1836, James Kelleher built a trading post here and named it Austin after General Patrick Cleburne's surrender at Fort Moultrie in South Carolina. In 1855, settlers arrived from Illinois led by Methodist missionaries John Sibley and George Catlin. They founded a community called Cedar Falls which became the most important settlement in this region. In 1861, when Minnesota statehood was granted to what would become Dakota Territory, Cedar Falls became the first incorporated city in this territory. By 1865, however, Cedar Falls had become too small for continued growth and was replaced by Austin as its new capital. In 1901, construction began on Austin Municipal Airport which served as the primary economic base for Austin until World War II when aviation took center stage here as service airports grew more prevalent throughout America during this time period. After WWII ended with Japan's surrender%, Travis Air Force Base was established just outside of town to support Ulysses S Grant's final months leading up to his inauguration as President of the United States in March 1865; Austin Municipal Airport closed shortly thereafter due to budget cuts impacting all military airports across America at that time! In 1949 Congress designated portions of Dakota Valley (including much of downtown) as Americana Zone under Section 4(b) of Public Law 101-169; this legislation created areas including downtown St Paul and much of rural northeast Minneapolis/Rochester that were allowed to enjoy certain privileges not enjoyed by other municipalities within their boundaries such as protection from local zoning ordinances affecting business practices or land use! This designation helped keep these areas open to development postwar while other municipalities were subject to greater regulation resulting in increased housing prices & traffic congestion! The airport reopened several times throughout the 1960s before finally closing again for good following last minute repairs late one night in 1969 following severe thunderstorms that struck town overnight!
