Apple Valley, Minnesota is a small town located in the Northwestern corner of Minnesota. It is bordered by North Dakota to the south and east, and Iowa to the north. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. Apple Valley is home to two universities- Western Illinois University and Northern Iowa University- as well as many businesses including WalMart, Target, Sears, McDonalds and KFC. The history of Apple Valley dates back to 1909 when farmers in this area began growing corn and wheat. They soon realized that they could not rely on harvesting these crops alone to provide food for their families so they began raising cows and pigs. These animals were milked for cheese, butter and other products which turned into money for the farmers. In 1916, one of these farmers named John Sorenson immigrated from Norway with his family and he started a grocery store in Apple Valley called Sorenson's Grocery Store. This grocery store became an influential force in apple valley because it sold fresh produce (unlike most stores at that time which only sold processed foods). The early settlers also built homes around their grocery store which served as social hubs for their community. In 1951, Swedish immigrant Anders Svensson opened a restaurant called Svensson's on County Road 6 near what is now KFC headquarters. This restaurant quickly became known as one of the best in apple valley due to its excellent quality food and great service. From hereon out, Svensson's restaurants would become some of the largest employers in Apple Valley with over 100 employees today! In 1984, another Swedish immigrant named Arne Nordstrom opened his own convenience store called Nordstrom's at First Avenue & County Road 6A near KFC headquarters. Nordstrom's became very successful due to its wide variety of groceries including household items such as detergent and vacuum cleaners) as well as baked goods like pies and pastries! In 1993, Nordstrom donated his entire business holdings (including all his inventory) to Western Illinois University in order to help create a new environmental Studies department there! Since then, Nordstrom's convenience store has been home to numerous students who have studied Business Administration or Environmental Science at WIU- many becoming millionaires thanks thereto! Today there are still employees from both businesses who work together downtown during lunchtime!

By 1907, over 1,500 acres had been cultivated and over 20 different types of apples were being grown here including Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Romekiel Russet and Jonathan Appleseed. Today's apple orchards produce more than 190 different types of apples including some that have never before been found in North America such as: Braeburn (a type of tangerine), Honeycrisp (a type of pink grapefruit), Northern Spy (a type of red raspberry) and Romekiel Russet (a type of yellow cherry). One canal trip from Apple Valley takes passengers on Pioneer Road across the river then upriver for a stop at Big Muddy Creek before reaching US 23 just outside the town limits where they turn around and return home again - one can imagine how busy this route must have been during peak season! For those who cannot make it down there during festival season there are several other activities available like farm tours throughout October which give visitors an inside look at how various crops are grown and harvested on local farms within close proximity to Apple Valley itself!
